Document - Advertising Rate Card SEC, State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV), Late 1940's or early 1950's?
Demonstrates aspects of the method of selling advertising space inside tramcars by the SEC and gives rates.Pamphlet - folded card - giving advertising rates for Geelong, Bendigo and Ballarat tramcars. Details the number of trams in each city, the rates for a standard size internal card, based on the number of cards, larger cards, half yearly and quarterly. Gives reasons why you should advertise. Has the same name, telephone number and the name "Alan Davis Pty Ltd of 149 Castlereagh St Sydney" on the card as well. Not sure of their relationship. On the front small folded section, an image of an owl and the statement "Be Wise and Advertise". Demonstrates aspects of the Ballarat Tramways in providing information to the travelling public about their tram services, times and how organised in relation to the time of the day. An ESCo era timetable. Two local businesses have advertised as well.Folded printed card, off white, titled "Ballarat Tramways Rubicon Street and Sebastopol Time Table." Gives details of trams from the City for Rubicon St and Sebastopol for the various days and inbound trams from Rubicon, indicating that trams ex Sebastopol ran 10 minutes earlier. Has various notes on the timetable. On Front of card, has advertisements for R. Hutchinson - 29 Armstrong St Ballarat, auto electrician and Suttons Ltd - Musical instruments - Corner Sturt and Dawson Streets. Form used to record a summary of the working hours of crews, showing the total hours and the hours worked when one man operation. Gives a list of names at the time when the form prepared. Also used by Jerry? as a sheet of paper to write out the details of No. 9 run for Saturdays as a reference document and noted it was last time on the Victoria St route and recorded the tramcar number.Duplicated typed form, foolscap sheet, titled "Summary of daily time sheets - Traffic Department", giving name, total time, one man rate time, and spread of hours. Has a list of employee names in two columns. Dated 28/7/1971 - Wednesday On rear of sheets, Jerry? Van Rooy - has used the sheet to write out Saturday 9 run details. Demonstrates aspects of the Ballarat Tramways ticketing system for use with the daily return from Sebastopol (See Reg Item 3492 for check ticket). Printed by ESCo for a specific route and particularly historic because a weekly set of tickets has been formed.Set of six Day return (4d) tickets for travel between Sebastopol and Grenville St - one for each day of the week. Have day of month around the edge, where it would have been nipped on the inward journey. Notes condition of use and that it must be given up on the return journey for a check ticket - See Reg. Demonstrates aspects of the SEC governance system in issuing By-laws for the travelling public, as part of their Act. Yields information about fares charged for tram services in Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong. Issued to crews.Twenty page booklet, plus medium weight card light blue colour covers centre stapled. Book cover has title "Electric Tramways of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria, By-Law No. 11". Along the bottom edge is the date, "August 1951" and SEC print number - "TYE 1-27" Pages are numbered pages 1 to 20. Document give by-laws and amends the fare schedules for Ballarat, Geelong and Bendigo. Dated by the SEC 19/7/1951 to come into effect 1/7/1951 Details names of SEC Commissioners on rear page. Significant in being a sheet regarding tramcar braking systems and how considered at the time - 1950. No mention of sand in braking technique.Was contained within Reg Item 3519 in which located in the filing cabinet 8/2006. Small typed carbon copy instruction or "Notice to All Traffic Staff" titled "Braking", discussing the names of emergency brake. Notes air braked trams have on emergency brake only - the air brake. Stopping trams electrically is not regarded as brake equipment, and should not be used unless air brake is defective. Dated 24/11/1950.
