Photos taken at the 13th Annual Widows' Art and Craft Exhibition held at Legacy House in 1994. The note with the photos says: "The quality and ingenuity of the arts and crafts entered were outstanding and quite a daunting task for the judge, Mrs Janice Bridges". Photos show President George Woodward speaking, other names are not known. This was an Annual Art and Craft Exhibition that was run by the widows club. The items could be sold at trading tables and at the table outside Legacy House during Badge Week in September to raise funds. There were craft afternoons throughout the year for widows to learn new skills and gather together at Legacy House. These regular meetings, fetes and workshops provided important opportunities for widows to meet, socialise and be activeA record of the type of activities the Legacy widows participated in. Craft days throughout the year provided times to gather together and socialise. The Art and Craft Exhibition gave them a chance to show off their talent. A brown wooden award with a gold coloured plate above a wreath inscribed "V.B.T.T.A. Presented by St Andrews Badminton Club Glen Waverley 1970". At the base of the award a smaller gold coloured plate is engraved 'The Black & White Trophy'. Multiple small silver shields with the names of individuals and the year that they won the award are located either side of the larger plate, with four shields having no inscription. Operation Float was an event run by Melbourne Legacy to take Junior legatees on an outing. It could have been to naval boats such as HMAS Cerberus or to a Yacht club. It gave the junior legatees the opportunity to see a naval boat in action, spend time on the water or try sailing. More images from the same outing are catalogued at 02479 and 02480. The slides have been photographed to make digital images and moved to archive quality sleeves. This is an example of Melbourne Legacy promotional material. Legacy invited Daryl Somers to be Personality of the Year in 1996 and again in 1997. He participated in many events to promote Legacy, including a parachute jump with Ron Barassi, a car raffle, lunches and comparing a night to remember (see 00853, 00854, 00997, 00056). The main time of year for fundraising is September when Legacy holds 'Badge Week'. Often there is a celebrity who gives his or her time as 'Personality of the Year'. Photos from a 10th anniversary of the Home and Hospital Visiting Group of the Melbourne Legacy widows' club at Legacy House in 1991. One photo shows Kath Mitchell, Vera Paydon and Valerie Parr (left to right) cutting the anniversary cake. The visiting group was formed to visit women in hospital or their homes or nursing homes. They met every third Wednesday at Legacy House. The photo was featured in the November 1991 issue of The Answer. In the 1990s Legacy was supported by generous donations from Fergusson Plarre Bakehouse with cakes often donated for the annual fete. This cake could have been donated. Photos of widows, legatees, President Millie and the Transport Minister riding in a tram that was decorated to promote Legacy in 1995. 1995 which was the 50th Anniversary of the end of World War II. Wording on the tram says: "This year - Australia remembers the Heroes of World War II / 50 years on / Legacy never forgets to care for the widows and children of those who fought for our freedom". It appeared in The Answer in June 1995 after the tram had been launched on May 2nd by President David Millie and Public Transport Minister, Mr Alan Brown. The ribbon was cut by Junior Legatees Kim Anderson and Peter Hazelager. This steering wheel is from the PS Success. The PS Success was built in Moama in 1877 by GB Air for Westwood & Air. The Success towed barges of sawn red gum, wool & other cargo along the Darling and Murray Rivers as well as running as a passenger boat from Swan Hill to Mildura during 1915-16. The Success ended her working life in 1957 and was put up on the bank at Neds Corner, 80kms west of Mildura. The PS Success was donated to the Riverboat Historical and Preservation Society of Mildura with plans for full restoration but with funds becoming extremely difficult to secure, the Shire of Campaspe was approached to take ownership in 2009 to enable further restoration when possible. The Riverboat Preservation Society also donated this original steering wheel.The PS Success was an important vessel built in the Echuca area during the height of the Riverboat trade in the 1870s. She had a long, colourful history towing barges on the Murray River and in particular in the Mildura, Wentworth and Ned's Corner regions. Importantly, the Success was the last paddlesteamer to be working on the river system right up until the 1956 floods rescuing sheep and wool. The steering wheel is an important original element of the PS Success and her hopes for restoration one day. Red metal steering wheel with 10 spokes sitting on a heavy iron wheel stand.

They were taken around the time of the Beauville Estate’s 65th Heritage Celebration held on 10/03/2001 and donated to the Caulfield Historical Society shortly afterwards. Photographer unknown. City of Glen Eira’s Heritage Management Plan Vol 2 p79 (this is p84 of the pdf version) – HO12 Beauville Estate and environs, Murrumbeena: The Beauville Historic Area is important at the State level as the first large housing estate undertaken by the AV Jennings Construction Co, later Jennings Group Limited, Victoria’s largest home builder. It is important also as a very early estate development incorporating a range of features other than houses and including made roads, shops and recreation facilities. In this respect it was the forerunner of the comprehensively planned housing estate of the post war era.
