Gough Whitlam was the ALP Prime Minister of Australia from 1972-1975. It was the first ALP government since Ben Chifley's government was defeated in 1951. The book is an historical account of the Whitlam government years. Whitlam was dismissed, in controversial circumstances, by the governor general (Sir John Kerr) and Malcolm Fraser (Liberal Opposition Leader) was appointed as caretaker Prime Minister.. The Old Identities Association was the forerunner ofThe Old Colonists' Association. This particular medal was presented to R.W. Wright who arrived in Ballarat in August 1853. It was purchased by the Old Colonists' Association in 2014. Other known medals were presented to :- * Arthur Croft who arrived in 1852 (Museum of Victoria) * Isaac Croft who arrived in September 1851 (Gold Museum) * Ben Story (Ballarat Historical Society) * John Brokenshire (Private Collection)Ballarat Old Identities medal in a box. The medal shows a gold cradle and other mining tools, and was presented to members of the Old Indentities Association. To qualify as a member you had to have arrived in Ballarat between 1851 and 1854. "Mr Welch, jeweller, of Sturt street, has just manufactured 60 medals, for issue to the members of the Old Identities' Association of Ballarat. Each is suitably inscribed and ornamented. The medals will be on view to day in Mr Welch’s window. The bunker was handed over to the Society by the R.S.L.A small 104 pp book titled Mallacoota Memories. On the front cover is a coloured photo of lakes and trees. The title is in red. The book contains early observations by J.[G] A. Robinson; contact with settlers; mentions Biduelli, Kruatungulung, Murring, Ben- Kurnai, Mallekotang Mittong, Tinnon, Kyrekong, Ponedyang, Worarer Mittong groups. The history is from 1841 -1945. Two newspaper articles, re the fight to save tree near Ringwood Timber on Maroondah Highway, late 1950s. The Yellow Box tree was located west of Ringwood timber, outside Bill Patterson's Motors near the New Street intersection. The fight was led by Cr Ben Hubbard, the secretary of the Ringwood Horticultural Society, Mr Kearsley, but was eventually lost. The articles are from The Herald and dated December 1957 and 11th June 1959. -

The inaugural meeting to form Harcourt Bowling Club was held in May 1955. Cr Ben Bingham donated half an acre of land in Bagshaw st Harcourt and the club acquired a small building from Blight's Quarry to serve as a clubhouse. The first day's play took place on 24th October 1959. New clubrooms were built in 1961 with the official opening of the Club held on Saturday 11th November 1961. The club became affilaited with Bendigo District Bowling Assocaition and, in 1966/67 won the Associated division 3 pennant. ; Depicts a group of men, the core ‘movers and shakers’ of the Harcourt community, in the course of their favourite recreation, Association champions in just the seventh year after formation.. Black and white photograph of fourteen men dressed in collar and tie, white trousers and dark blazers, each bearing the club name, HARCOURT BOWLING CLUB B.D.B.A. PENNANT WINNER - DIVISION 3- SEASON 1966-67 and the names of each player.
