Gough Whitlam was the ALP Prime Minister of Australia from 1972-1975. It was the first ALP government since Ben Chifley's government was defeated in 1951. The book is an historical account of the Whitlam government years.
Whitlam was dismissed, in controversial circumstances, by the governor general (Sir John Kerr) and Malcolm Fraser (Liberal Opposition Leader) was appointed as caretaker Prime Minister..
