Mary Linton, nee Dunlop, was born in 1809 the West Indies, and married Joseph Linton in Scotland when she was eighteen. Mary and Joseph Linton migrated to Victoria in 1839, and took up a pastoral lease in the Wardy Yaloak district which they called Emu Hill. They had eleven children, ten of whom survived to adulthood. Mary died in Ballarat in 1887. The township of Linton derives its name from this family. This photograph is believed to have been taken after the laying of the foundation stone for the Parish Hall, in 1909. The Ballarat Star of 1 September 1909 reported that "After the ceremony an adjournment was made to the Shire Hall, where afternoon tea was served by the ladies of the congregation." A copy of this photograph is in the St Paul's Church of England file. In 2000 major renovation works were carried out on the Sunbury Bendigo Rail line to accommodate new and larger carriages which were going to replace older trains. Mrs Catherine Sneddon, née Wardrope, wife of John Sneddon, was born in Scotland in 1828 and died at Berringa in 1914. She was listed as 'nurse' in the Victorian Electoral Roll 1905.
