Joined the A.I.F. and served in Cairo and the United Kingdom. Returned from military service in 1920. Returned to the United Kingdom in 1922. Mervyn 'Banjo' Harris (born 4/3/1914) was the eldest son of Walter 'Bob' and Zillah Harris of Bendigo. He enlisted in the C.M.F. 8th L.H. February 1937. No V22764. He enlisted in the A.I.F. 7th January 1941 when the 8th light horse disbanded. He was then posted to he 143 P.O.W. camp Murchison. He was made a Sgt. at Geelong.Paper Certificate with Australian military forces logo and some slight ageing evident. Reads: Australian Military forces Certificate of Discharge certificate no. 66757 This is to certify that v22764 Sgt Mervyn Sylvester Walter Harris- 6 Aust. Aux. House fnanopant cay who enlisted for the C.M.F on the 25th day of Nov 1939 and who served on continuous full time war service in the Citizen Military Forces for a total effective period of nine hundred and fifty four days which included active service in Australia for 748 days outside Australia for [0] days is discharged from the Citizen military Forces during that service or by virtue of that service the soldier was awarded or became eligible for [no] medals and decorations [no] war badge. this discharge takes effect on and from the first day of may one thousand nine hundred and forty four. This is a certificate presented to 2156 Private Christopher Dennis Parkinson who enlisted on 4 April 1916, served in 2nd Pioneer Battalion A.I.F. He was Wounded In Action and died form gunshot wound (abdomen) on 22 December 1917 in Belgium. He is buried in Trois Arbres Military Cemetary, STRENWERCK, 3 and a half miles N.W of Armentieres. Plot 2; Row C; Grave 16. He received the 1914/15 Star; British War Medal and Victory Medal. -

Functional object - Ephemera, Flask and ID Badge
A group of items including an identification tag on a leather wrist strap, flask and boot hook. Also a circular ID tag possibly made to be worn around the neck. Also a Ypres souvenir that seems incomplete. These were with other World War 1 memorabilia that has come from Private John Basil McLean, 2nd Reinforcements, 37th Battalion, A.I.F. Possibly these were with him during his time in the First World War and he kept them as a mementos. J.B. McLean (Service No. 13824) was from near Maffra, Victoria and enlisted on 22 January 1916. He embarked on 16 December 1916 for Europe. He spent time with the Australian Field Artillery (Pack Section). At the end of the war he worked for a year at the A.I.F. Headquarters in London before returning to Australia on the 'Ceramic', arriving in Portsea in 1920. His full war record is available from the National Archives of Australia (B2455, MCLEAN JBM).Mementos brought back with a soldier after serving in Europe in World War One.A metal flask, an identification tag, a boot hook, a circular identification tag, a souvenir from Ypres all from the collection of JB McLean.01126.1 Flask has monogram 'JBMCL' engraved on it. 01126.2 Identification tag has 'No. 13824 JB M McLean, ASC, AIF, RC' engraved on it. 01126.3 The boot hook has 'BAILLEUL' engraved on it. 00126.4 The circular tag with a central star has 'PTE J B M McLean A Coy 37 Bat' pressed into the metal. 00126.5 A metal tube with the letters 'Ypres' adhered to the outside. world war one, souvenir
