Badge - Lapel badge, Presbyterian Fellowship Association
B006.1 associated with St George's PFA, St Kilda. Membership of the PFA was symbolised by the wearing of the badge. Badges were received by new members only at a special Badge Presentation Service. The letters "PFA" stand out clearly on the badge with the letter "F" the largest because Christian Fellowship is central - with God and and one another. Around the letters is a ring of blue. A ring is an emblem of love and blue traditionally stands for truth of loyalty. Behind the letters are a white St Andrew's cross. Around the edge of the badge are serrations which point outwards and symbolise the reaching out of the Fellowship to the world. The aim of the PFA was "to unite youth in the fellowship of service of the Kingdom of God." Its objectives were "to present to youth the Gospel of Jesus as good news for them, the community and mankind, and as a call to vigorous and faithful activity for Christ's Kingdom in collaboration with all who seek that Kingdom. to help them understanding of the life and teaching of Jesus Christ through study of the Bible and other sources of inspiration. To assist youth to grow to full and true maturity by helping to meet their spiritual needs in physical, mental and social realms. To unite the youth of the Presbyterian Church into a Fellowship of worship, study, recreation and service directed toward the achievement of these objectives." Album - Album page, St Stephen's Presbyterian Church, Balaclava Road, Circa 1972
This photograph is part of the Caulfield Historical Album 1972. This album was created in approximately 1972 as part of a project by the Caulfield Historical Society to assist in identifying buildings worthy of preservation. The album is related to a Survey the Caulfield Historical Society developed in collaboration with the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and Caulfield City Council to identify historic buildings within the City of Caulfield that warranted the protection of a National Trust Classification. Principal photographer thought to be Trevor Hart, member of Caulfield Historical Society. Most photographs were taken between 1966-1972 with a small number of photographs being older and from unknown sources. All photographs are black and white except where stated, with 386 photographs over 198 pages. From: Glen Eira Heritage Management Plan (1996) by Andrew Ward and Associates In 1905, the land was vacant in Balaclava Road, north side, from Kooyong Road east to the right of way, except for one house. A block of this land was acquired by the Presbyterian community and a timber church erected there in 1910. In time, a larger church was required. After several years of fund raising led by George Kinross, a new red brick St Stephen's church was built in 1926 to the design of architects Haddon and Henderson. George Currie was the builder and the cost of construction was £5,100.From: Glen Eira Heritage Management Plan (1996) by Andrew Ward and Associates: St Stephens has architectural importance as a noteworthy example of a Gothic Transitional design in the Arts and Crafts eclectic manner (see Stylistic Typology in National Trust's Historic Church's Study}. The facade treatment successfully combines Christian symbols with Gothic forms in the Arts and Crafts mode (comparable with Haddon's Presbyterian Church, Malvern (1906) and Haddon and Henderson's Oakleigh Church (1928). It is locally important as an example of Robert Haddon's work in Caulfield, where he also lived (4 Glenferrie St q.v.).Page 27 of Photograph Album with one photograph of a drawing or perhaps a postcard of St Stephen's Presbyterian Church. It has a large block of formal writing in the bottom right corner which looks official.Hand written: 27 [bottom right]trevor hart, caulfield north, balaclava road, george kinross, haddon and henderson, george currie, st stephen's, 1900's, 1920's, gothic transitional, christian symbols, arts and crafts, robert haddon, stylistic typology, gothic, presbyterian church, architects, drawings -

Honour board, Ballarat College Dux
This was the second honour board created by Ballarat College to honour the top academic student of each year. The first award was given in 1868 four years after the school opened. Dux of College honour boards were on display in the Assembly Hall (Sturt Street building north wing). They are featured in 1918 photographs of the Assembly Hall. The three boards cover the following years: 1868 - 1895 (partially defaced), 1896 - 1921 (completely defaced) and 1922 - 1952 (complete). This new board replacing the originals were created prior to the centenary celebration in 1964 and hung in the Memorial Hall. At amalgamation (1974) and because the Senior students moved to the Mair Street campus) this board was co-opted to honour Middle School Dux. In 2012 the school undertook a major project and created three new boards. One board honours Ballarat College Dux (1868 - 1973) and School Captains (1914 - 1973); another board honours Clarendon Presbyterian Ladies' College Dux and Head Prefect (1919 - 1973). These boards resemble the 1950 re-creation. A third board was instituted in 2012 to honour Ballarat Clarendon College Dux and School Captains (1974 - ) This board emphasizes the value placed on academic excellence by the school from its earliest beginnings. That the boards have been maintained and consistently displayed in significant places of honour within the school only further emphasizes the historial and social significance of the award 'Dux of school'. Large varnished wooden board with wood frame, four rectangular relief boards and one heading relief board. Gold leaf lettering on relief boards. dux, ballarat-college, ballarat-and-clarendon-college, honour-boards, memorial-hall, assembly-hall, 1968, 1918, 1974, middle-school-dux -

Drawing - Property Illustration, 1A College Street, Hawthorn, 1992
'After training as a Cartographic Draftsman within the mining industry, I worked as a property illustrator for real estate firms in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne for 23 years from 1983. I initially photographed houses with a Polaroid camera and made a 'thumbnail' sketch while there. The photos were used to scale off a sketch in pencil and then that sketch was overlaid with drafting film and the 'pen and ink' completed. The pens I used were the Rotring ‘Rapidigraph’ drafting pens. The ink was also made by Rotring (German). The film was ‘Rapidraw’, polyester drafting film, double matte. It takes a very fine line and doesn’t bleed. As well as house sketches, there were often floor plans and site plans ordered. Aerial sketches were ordered when the property needed an overall view.' (Margaret Picken, 2020)This property illustration is one of a series created by Margaret Picken for a range of real estate agents in Melbourne between c. 1983 and c. 2006.
