This is a photograph showing the P.S. Alexander Arbuthnot about to be removed from the water to be transported to Shepparton for restoration. Elaine Mann was married to David Mann, a successful Wodonga businessman and community leader who passed away in Wodonga in June 2012. David was a member of the Mann family who began their business in Wodonga in 1920. Elaine was a teacher in Wodonga for many years and an active member of the community.This photo collection is of significance as it documents how the businesses and buildings in Wodonga have evolved and contributed to community throughout the late 20th centuryBusinesses from Left to right J. Born in Chiltern in 1875, John T McSwiney moved into his premises in High Street, Wodonga in 1901. He operated his pharmacy from this site for over 64 years. At its peak, John put the Wodonga store under the care of a manager and moved to set up a second pharmacy in Wangaratta. He later returned to his Wodonga pharmacy where although semi-retired John continued to go to work each day up to his 90th birthday. Was located in the stables at Mount Buffalo Chalet. It was used to record the names of horses that were ridden by Chalet guests when they were holidaying at the Chalet. 'Admiring the rugged beauty of the Buffalo Plateau and exploring its scenic attractions ...quickly became part of the Mount Buffalo Chalet tourist experience...The Chalet facilitated the experience by hosting guided tours, including trail rides on horseback...the horses remained at the Chalet for decades, and have been remembered with great affection, as demonstrated by the honour roll for Chalet horses and various commemorative plaques.' Granite and Punka were legendary and plaques in their honor are mounted on the large granite boulders in the stableyards.Listed in Draft Inventory of Significant Collection items. The lower section of the board has some names painted onto strips but also some names are scratched directly onto the wood.At top of plaque, "ROLL OF HONOUR /TO / OUR FRIENDS - / THE CHALET HORSES, / WHO GAVE US MANY HAPPY HOURS / BUT WHO HAVE SINCE MOVED / "DOWN THE HILL". This chainsaw was one of the earliest models sold in Australia. It was manufactured by the Lombard company which was established in 1894 when Nathaniel Lombard developed the first practical water wheel governor in Roxbury, Massachusetts, USA. In 1904, the company moved to Ashland, Massachusetts. During the first World War, Lombard Governor produced hydraulic lathes for the manufacture of artillery shells At the conclusion of the war, Lombard expanded into the areas of chain saws and plastic molding injection machines. This model, the L-30 was only produced for 2 years from 1962 - 1964, primarily due to safety concerns and the fact that it did not have any way to sharpen or tighten the chain. This chainsaw was sold by Mann of Wodonga and donated to the Wodonga and District Historical society by David Mann, owner and manager of Mann Wodonga.This item is significant as it was produced for a limited time. It was also sold by a prominent Wodonga business.A single operator chain saw from Lombard, Ashland, Massachusetts, USA. The chainsaw was relatively lightweight but had no safety features such as a chain brake. It was made primarily of sand cast magnesium. The main cylinder was constructed of aluminium with a cast iron sleeve. It had a manual oil pump, the crankshaft operated on ball bearings and it had a maximum rpm of 4,500. The Life Story of Alexander Robert Edgar who founded the Central Mission Melbourne who due to ill health moved to Ringwood to take advantage of the clean fresh air for his health. After his death his wife donated two stain glass windows in memory of her husband and children. Postcard, WW1, B&W image of the grave of German airman, Baron von Richthofen, shot down in the Somme area. He was buried at Bertangles by members of the Australian Flying Corps. The grave is mounded with earth with flowers on top. At the head of the grave is one propeller stuck in the ground. The Thompson's Foundry Battery was re-erected in the Parkin's Reef Reserve after being used at Bola Creek near the NSW border. The pocket balance was first created in 1770 by Richard Salter in the UK. From the late 18th century onwards these small scales were widely used in markets, grocers and farm shops – wherever people needed to be able to verify the weight of goods to be purchased in order to calculate the correct pricing. Because it was portable, and simple to use, the pocket balance was ideal for weighing goods where accuracy was not required.
