Model of Maud made in 2012 by Malcolm Gibson in Geelong. Actual couta boat Maud was launched in 1927 built by Lars Halvorsen and now moored in QueenscliffMAUD is a wooden sailing vessel built in Victoria for fishing. It is an example of the Victorian couta boat class with a design adaptation for local conditions. It was built and designed by Peter Locke Jnr, at Queenscliff Victoria in 1931, with shallower draft than most couta boats so that it could operate from Barwon Heads. The Warrnambool aquarium was opened in 1971 and was mostly underground with three domes above ground level. It is situated near the Warrnambool breakwater and the main structure is still extant. It closed as an aquarium in 1990 and was then used by Deakin University as a research centre for a few years. The aquarium contained exhibits of marine life and shells. The 8th Light Horse was formed in 1903 from Victorian Mounted Rifles companies in North East Victoria with Headquarters at Benalla. In 1912 the regiment was renumbered 16th Light Horse. In 1920 the title reverted to 8th Light Horse with the territorial title Indi Light Horse. In December 1941, the regiment converted from horse to mechanised, initially as 8th Reconnaissance Battalion then in July 1942 it became 8th Cavalry Regiment and served in Northern Territory.
