Replica shed built in 2005 to house radio equipment for the centenary celebration of the first radio transmission from mainland Australia to Tasmania in 1906. A re-enactment was performed in Royal Reserve between Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff. The replica radio equipment inside was supplied by the Geelong Amateur Radio Club Inc [GARC Inc]. Marong was first incorporated as a road district on 27 August 1861, and became a shire on 23 December 1864. On 1 October 1915, the Borough of Raywood, which was gazetted on 17 January 1865 on 23.31 square kilometres (9.00 sq mi) of land 28 kilometres (17 mi) north of Bendigo,[2] was united with Marong. On 1 October 1990, the Shire of Marong became a rural city, under the Local Government Act 1989. The first meeting of the 1st Bendigo Guides was held by Miss Merle Bush on the 22nd of August 1922 in the St Paul' School Room. Twelve girls were present. 1934 was the year that Victoria celebrated the European settlement of Victoria. Events were planned through Victoria. In Kew a children's picnic was planned. The following newspaper report records what happened: KEW CHILDREN'S PICNIC. Owing to rain the picnic which the Kew Centenary celebrations committee had arranged for children resident in the municipality, which was to have taken place at Victoria Park yesterday, had to be postponed. The organisers decided to forward to the various schools the luncheons which had been prepared for the children and hurriedly made arrangements for their entertainment at a picture theatre. Needless to say the theatre was crowded to capacity, in addition to special pictures a punch and judy show was provided and a number of aborigines who are in Melbourne for the Centenary gave, exhibitions of native dances and corroborees. The trophies for the sports events are to do competed for at a later date.
