Over 100 applications from all over Victoria, many from Returned Soldiers since the advert in the Standard newspaper for the position stated that they were to be given preference. Sydney R C CARNS from Evans Street, a Returned Soldier who has lost his right hand during the war, was the successsful applicant according to a report in the Standard.
