These three formal photos of LTCOL Lionel ‘Bill’ Sprenger MBE, MID were taken at the Army Headquarters (AHQ) Survey Regiment, Fortuna, Bendigo on the 30th of September 1969. LTCOL Bill Sprenger MBE, MID joined the Australian Army on the 10th of June 1940 and after rising through the ranks, his career culminated in his appointment as CO of the Army Survey Regiment from 1969 to 1970. Despite suffering debilitating poor health during his appointment, LTCOL Sprenger MBE, MID led the Regiment on the unit’s first Freedom of Entry Parade held in Bendigo on the 14th of June 1970. For more information on this occasion, refer to item 6020.8P. Unfortunately, LTCOL Bill Sprenger MBE, MID passed away on the 5th of December 1970 and was farewelled with a full military funeral. He is remembered as a model of good leadership. More information on LTCOL Sprenger’s tenure as CO of the unit is provided in pages 98 to 99, 102 and 134 of Valerie Lovejoy’s book 'Mapmakers of Fortuna – A history of the Army Survey Regiment’ ISBN: 0-646-42120-4.These three formal photos of LTCOL Lionel ‘Bill’ Sprenger MBE, MID were taken at the Army Headquarters (AHQ) Survey Regiment, Fortuna, Bendigo on the 30th of September 1969. They all have Lewis Lewis in them as well as others. The real photograph is a black and white photo of Lewis Lewis and his family beside a fence looking over the sea with large sea cliffs behind them (Image 3a). One of the photographs is a copy of this photo (Image 3b). Another photocopy is black and white photo of a different group of people in the same location by the sea (Image 3c). The last photocopy is black and white of a small plane with a group of people beside it (Image 3d). Administrative record - Deborah Gold Mines N.L. Mine Manager's Report Book, 1930 to 1943
Deborah Gold Mines included the South Deborah, North Deborah and Deborah Extended. Deborah Gold Mines N.L. was wound up in 1950, when the shareholders, at an extraordinary meeting confirmed a proposal for voluntary liquidation. (Advertiser., Adelaide, 24 May, 1950) . George Kingsley, who wrote the reports, was the Mine Manager. He was born in Guildford in 1872, died in Bendigo in 1943. He spent his working life working in gold mines, mainly in Bendigo, in various roles, starting his work life as a blacksmith. One hundred and eighty page Mine Manager's fortnightly report book, dark blue cover, white label affixed on front with 'Deborah ....(.illegible) Minute Book' Dates from 18th July 1940 to 23rd July 1943. Each coloured degree related to a particular value of the Manchester United Oddfellows. Purple certificate was related to charity. The Bendigo chapter of the Manchester United Oddfellows began in 1854.Blu folder. On one side the coloured logo of the Independet Order of Oddfellows in Victoria, Bendigo District, Manchester Unity Friendly Society. On the other the inscription: Purple Degree Certificate - We hereby certifythat brother R. G. Evans a member of the loyal Albert lodge, presented to us a certificate from his lodge entatling him to receive the Purple Dergee, which was duly conferred upon him at a Past Grand's Lodge, held at the M. U. Hall, Bendigo on the 20th day of January 1940. In witness whereof we have affixed our names and the Seal of our district this 25th day of January 1941. Signed bt the District Grand Master: L.
