The waterbody was the site of a quarry that existed between Grovedale Road and James Street, Surrey Hills on land owned by J B Maling (senior). Clay from it was used to make bricks for local houses. The quarry became a hazard and after several drownings was filled in. The Grovedale Park now occupies the site. Muriel Hedwig Lucy Pornitz, also known as Muriel Pornett, lived locally. She was born in Melbourne in 1894 and studied at the South Australian School of Arts & Crafts in 1911 under James Ashton and Fred Britton, and at the Australian School of Etching in Sydney. She was also an illustrator and cartoonist. She died in 1982.A small oil painting on canvas board in a dark wood frame of a water body with a clay bank behind and 2 trees above the bank. Rev. C. P. Schwieger, known as Percy, was vicar at Holy Trinity from October 1934 to 1953. Many Children in Surrey Hills were baptised by him as there was a population explosion following WW2. There is a stained glass window of Mary and Martha with Jesus that he donated to the church in memory of his wife Mary, obit. 6.4.1949. He oversaw many improvements to the church properties over the time when the parish was extending to St Augustine in Balwyn and land was obtained for the church at Wattle Park, now closed. The item is a representative example of previously standard issue uniform and is in excellent condition. As a set alongside 0040.2, the uniform has aesthetic significance in its design, incorporating the Disruptive Pattern style of camouflage which has its roots in the 1980s and continues to be adapted into uniform design by the Defence Force.Field shirt in disruptive pattern colours of green, khaki and browns. Long sleeve with five buttons up the front, two chest pockets with button-down flap pockets. Both sleeves are reinforced from the elbow down to the cuff; cuffs are fastened with a single plastic button. Above the right chest pocket is a patch with embroidered inscription in black thread on disruptive pattern backing. Shirt also features plain epaulette's on both shoulders, fastened by plastic button. This hat was worn by D. P. Bright, whilst serving in the Royal Australian Navy, presumably on the H.M.A.S. Leeuwin.Sailor's hat with removable ribbon which sits on exterior band with machine embroidered inscriptions, tied in a bow at the back. Hat is piqued, stiffened white cotton with two white eyelets on both left and right side. Dark navy band on exterior with brown leather lining on the interior, with cotton bow on interior back. On interior of hat, the hat contains a plastic lining on which there is an inscription.
