Murray Comrie Collection. The building depicted was previously used for Barnes' Store at Waanyarra, later relocated to Tarnagulla. William Barnes was a tailor at Tarnagulla and Waanyarra in the 1860s. By the late 1870s the family was living at Grassy Flat. The building was located on the south-eastern corner of the Gladstone-Victoria Street intersection, and for many years housed the chaff-cutting operations of the Calder family. The building gradually fell into disrepair, and was completely dismantled in the 1990s. Murray Comrie Collection. This is a reasonable copy of an older original. Copy probably made by Murray Comrie in the 1960s. The store close for business in 1916, and the building was demolished in 1926 after falling into disrepair. Originally built by James Ray in the early 1860s, London House was centrally located in Tarnagulla's commercial area and was a very successful enterprise for many decades. This card of buttons was most likely purchased in Orbost from a local shop, eg. Herbert Stores, and dates from the late 19th or early 20th Century.A card with 12 'jet' like buttons attached to it. On the Gold field there is a man on a horse, a man with a heavily laden cart being pulled by 4 ox. Some men are working in the gully for gold, panning, using cradle. In the front centre at the bottom is the head and shoulders of a man with an axe digging out his mine. There are also some dogs in the picture and a tent in the front right corner.
