In 1956, Amy travelled abroad and on her return in 1957 was appointed permanently as Women's editor, a position she held for twenty-three ears. "Lowering the flag is the least we can do for such a lady" Cr Campbell said. Douglas Lockwood, editor of the Bendigo Advertiser said, "She was a devot d colleague who gave her craft and her newspaper the kind of service which identified a rare and generous spirit." She was a true professional who decided to make Bendigo her home. More than 300 people packed St Paul's Church for her funeral ervice the bell tolled as the casket was carried from the church. At a ceremony in the Conservatory Gardens on No ember 22 1981 The Amy Huxtable Memorial Committee presented to the City of Bendigo, a garden seat in memory of the late Miss Huxtable. Handwritten notes on Paddy's Gully Line. Two long Xcuts put in at 642 ft & 1206 ft. (Sea mine). In the Sea ground and the immediate vicinity there were many claims at work on the line in the early 1860's and also from 1870 to 1872. For one of them, owned by the Poaddy's Gully Co $40,000 was refused. Gold-bearing quartz was reached in this mine at 396 feet, but the water was too strong to allow of work being gone on with. Slide - DIGGERS & MINING. THE DIGGINGS THE DIGGERS, c1852
Diggers & Mining. The Diggings The Diggers. Slide: The early years of the rush-1852 and 1853-were the best years for the diggers. But thereafter, although many continued to do well, the average annual earnings of the diggers declined rapidly. In 1858, when there were over 100,000 diggers in Victoria, few could have been doing really well ; only the hope of a ''lucky strike'' kept many of them on the diggings. After 1858, the diggers began to leave the field; by 1865 there were probably only about 27,000 independent diggers in Victoria. Markings: 81 994.LIF:4. Used as a teaching aid.hanimount -

Equipment - Blackened Wood Toolbox with Hinged Lid containing 45 Moulding Planes, 1880-1940
Bertie Greenwood was born c. 1880/81 and died aged 82 in Hawthorn in 1963. His father and possibly his grandfather were also carpenters. Bertie’s work as a cabinetmaker required precise planing to give lovely edges and other elaborate decorations. The major item in the tool collection is Bertie’s wooden box, which houses 45 different moulding planes. Later in his life, he used these skills extensively when he worked as a patternmaker for a plastering company. Bertie worked through his seventies, retiring when he lost a finger. The tool collection was donated to the Kew Historical Society by Bertie’s granddaughter, Pamela Webster Bloom, a former resident of Kew.The blackened wood toolbox contains 45 wooden moulding planes, many made in England. In woodworking, a moulding plane is a specialised plane used for making the complex shapes found in wooden mouldings. Traditionally, moulding planes were blocks of wear resistant hardwood, often beech or maple, which were worked to the shape of the intended moulding. The blade, or iron was likewise formed to the intended moulding profile and secured in the body of the plane with a wooden wedge. A traditional cabinetmakers shop might have many, perhaps hundreds, of moulding planes for the full range of work to be performed.Toolbox engraved with the initials ‘BG’ on the lidmoulding plane, bertie greenwood, woodworking tools -

Pamphlet, Land Sale Brochure, Dublin Road Station Estate - 1923
"Extracts from Recent Daily Newspaper - Ringwood Train Service - STATION WANTED AT RINGWOOD EAST. A deputation from the Ringwood East Railway League and Progress Association waited on the chairman of the Railway Commissioners yesterday afternoon and asked that a railway station be erected at Dublin-road, a mile and a quarter from Ringwood. The deputation urged that there were 81 passengers who, if the station were provided, would make daily use of it, and that as the Commissioners had purchased a site for a station at Dublin-road it was evident they had at one time considered it the most suitable site. The Chairman of Commissioners stated that the estimated cost of the station was £3700. Land owners in the locality should pay a proportion of the cost. Members of the deputation replied that there would be no difficulty in raising the money."Multi-fold brochure advertising public auction of residential allotments on Saturday, 10th November, 1923. Book, Henry Jacobs Auctioneer: Auction Sale Notices, c1941
This scrapbook contains hundreds of auction sale notices for Warrnambool properties (and some more distant) dating from September 1941 to March 1972. In some instances the newspaper article noting the details of the sale and articles recording the result of the sale are included. The names of many of the real estate firms of the period form part of the advertisement. It provides a significant research tool relating to properties in Warrnambool and information to interpret the type of buildings available during this period. The firm of Henry J. Jacobs & Son, Auctioneers & Real Estate Agents was located at 146a Liebig Street with the known dates 1937 to 1964, and at 81 Liebig Street from the 1960s. Henry Jacobs' Frank Jacobs, also worked in the business. This book has been indexed in Houses and Properties Index. This scrapbook is of considerable local significance as it gives a great deal of information on people, properties, prices and sales in the timeframe (19401-1972). It is invaluable to researchers as it contains not only the details of the auctions at the time but also extra information on the owners and buyers and sellers, the names of the properties, the frequency of sales of properties of the time and the names of estate agents operating during the period. It has social significance in that it shows one manner in which business collated information.Dark red cloth bound scrapbook with brown paper pages. The photographic firm of Morrison & Co., were active at 81 Bourke Street East during the 1880s. Like numerous other photographers in Melbourne, their business must have been severely curtailed by the Depression of the 1890s. The sitter’s identity has been established as a Mrs. Merritt. While we know that she is not the Mrs Merritt who was to be the wife of the future Mayor of Kew, there were two Mrs Merritts who were shopkeepers in High Street, Kew. Mrs Lucy Merritt operated a bootmaker’s shop, and subsequently a “boot warehouse” from 1888 until the 1920s. Miss Laura Merritt established a dressmaker’s shop in High Street in 1910. Her business also lasted until the 1920s, albeit changed to that of a bookseller and stationer. Both portraits are of the same woman.Cabinet Card by Morrison & Co. The first and second generations of the Henty family established vast pastoral properties in the Western part of the Port Phillip District. Francis Henty managed ‘Merino Downs’ near Casterton, while also living in his retirement at ‘Field Place' in Kew. The Henty Collection of nineteenth and twentieth century clothing, including outerwear and underwear, was collected, stored and exhibited over time by female family members descended from Francis and Mary Ann Henty. During the twentieth century, items from the collection were modelled in two fashion parades by various descendants [1937, 1959]. The items in the collection are historically and aesthetically significant, with provenance provided by oral and written tradition within or held by the family. A number of the items in the collection are very rare survivors, and provide researchers with the evidence needed to reconstruct the lives of notable women in the Port Phillip District [later Victoria] during the nineteenth and early twentieth century.A two-piece, moiré silk faille day dress, owned and worn by Mary Ann Henty, aged 59, while resident at Field Place, Kew. The fitted and panelled bodice on the day dress features wide velvet ribbon, hand sewn to form ‘V’ detailing at front and back. The front bodice hook and eye closure is decorated with handmade velvet covered buttons. The high round neckline is trimmed with pleated ivory fine tulle lace. The wide long sleeves of the bodice are also trimmed with velvet ribbon and buttons forming exquisite cuff detailing. The full length skirt and train are tucked into a fitted waistline band. The hemline is hand finished with wide velvet ribbon. A separate attached peplum is worn over the full bustle of the skirt.
