Belonged to Eliza Dowell nee Clark, who came to Australia 1852. She bought the mortar and pestle with her and mixed concoctions for treating everyday ailments. Mrs Dowell and family came to Tatura in c 1880, where Mrs Dowell conducted a shop in Hogan Street.White clay/ceramic mortar and pestle.(2 pieces)

Made by Tom Hunter during WW2 in Papua New Guinea2 Turtles created from a large cowrie shell that is brown spotted. The large shell is connected to four smaller cowrie shells that act as the feet. Then another small shell to be the head. AUnreadable writing on the underbelly of the two turtles written in grey lead.

Interview of three persons, members of the Temple Society, who were arrested in Palestine during World War 2 as "enemy aliens". They were transported to Australia on the "Queen Elizabeth" which was being used at that time, as a troop ship. As part of a group of approximately 650 men, women and children from Palestine,they were held in internment Camp 3, Tatura, from 1941 until 1947. Those internees who chose to remain in Australia after the war were released at such time as they were able to obtain employment and accommodation. Also interviewed is Lurline Knee, Researcher for the Tatura Wartime Camps Museum. Dr. Leonhard Adam studied both Anthropology and Jurisdiction as a young. Dr. Leonhard Adam's daughter, Mary Clare Adam Murvitz, presented this collection of her Father's printed archival material to Tatura Museum on 17.2.2006. In 1934 he fled from Germany seeking refuge in England. In 1940 he was interned as a security risk in England , sent to Australia in June, 1940. Interned in Camp 2 until 1942, released to Melbourne University where he catalogued aboriginal artefacts.Orange hard back cover with gold writing. Apricot dust cover.
