This photograph is of a two storey bank on the corner of Wimmera & Main St's Stawell. It was used by the Commercial Bank of Australia. The building was originally built as Langford's chemist and now privately owned. Black & White photograph of a brick two storey building situated on a street corner. Mitcham Post Office began in a shop in Whitehorse Road next but one from Elizabeth Street and Whitehorse Road. They moved to a shop on the corner of Whitehorse Road and Station Street with Mrs. Markham as Post Mistress. She had an assortment of items for sale in the shop. They daughter May married and lived with her parents and had quite a large family. Mary set up a photographic service, developing films and taking portraits of people and taking sets of photographs of the Mitcham area and selling photographic supplies for Kodak and Hesma. (Mounted) Barnard's Store was on the south-west corner of Canterbury Road and L.L. Vale Road (Boronia Road) Vermont. The old store was run by Miss Barnard. Mr Barnard had a Farriers Shop at the back of the store. The white gates on back centre of photograph in Canterbury Road is entrance to Uplands, home of Edward Bishop and Dr. Stephens. House with Spanish taste belonged to Mr. Peake of Peake and Cox, the timber yard directly across Whitehorse Road from this house which became the new site of St.John's Roman Catholic Primary School. This house was on the corner of Whitehorse Road and Albert Street. Upon the sale of the timber yard and mill the catholic church the house was also sold to the church and was occupied as a residence for the school's teaching Sister's.
