Tait collection: item 26 of 62 This is a 1905 document containing information on the Will and Probate of Elizabeth Bright, a widow from Ellerslie in Victoria. She died in April 1905 and left real estate to the value of £540 and personal estate to the value of £412. The main beneficiary was her daughter-in-law, Ann Gibson, the wife of William Gibson, a dairyman from Ellerslie. No other information has been found on Elizabeth Bright. The lawyer concerned with the document was Edward Backhouse of Terang. He came to Victoria with his family in 1871 and was educated at Wesley College and Melbourne University. He was the founder and Head Teacher of the Alma Road Grammar School in St. Kilda and later was the Head Teacher of the St. Kilda Grammar School. He also was the Classics teacher at Geelong Grammar School. He practised law at Terang and Yea. This document is of some interest as it gives details on the Will and Probate of Elizabeth Bright who lived at Ellerslie, an area with some associations with Warrnambool at the time. This is white sheet of paper folded in two with hand written material on the four sides detailing the Will and Probate of Elizabeth Bright of Ellerslie, 1905. The pages have printed red lines on three sides. The document has one hand-drawn stamp of the Colonial Bank of Australia of Terang. The written material is legible. A tankard mug that was produced for Legacy to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. It is unknown how many of these mugs were made. It is unlikely they were for fundraising. Perhaps just for Legatees to keep. Also found reference to it in a newspaper article published 7 December 1953. The article mentions: Two hundred members and visitors who attended the 30th annual dinner of the Legacy Club in Union House on Saturday night received a pleasant surprise. Each person at the dinner was given a Coronation pint tankard with a figure of the Queen's head on it. The 'surprise' came from a Legatee - Mr H Greenway - a Blackburn pottery manufacturer. They had already produced other mugs for Legacy, including one of Stan Savige.The item records the importance Legacy placed on the coronation of the new Queen that they commissioned Legacy imprinted commemorative mugs for the occasion.Cream coloured ceramic mug produced to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth 11, in 1953.Relief portrait of Queen Elizabeth 11 under which is etched Coronation 1953 on the other side is a relief image of the Legacy Torch and Weath of Laurel. These coins are examples of Australian decimal currency coins in 1970 and 1971. Decimal currency was introduced into Australia in 1966 with 50 cents, 20 cents, 10 cents, five cents, two cents and one cent coins issued at that time. The images of Australian animals and birds on one side of the coins were designed by Stuart Devlin. The one and two cent coins were discontinued in the 1980s and $1 and $2 coins were introduced in 1991.These coins are retained as examples of Australian decimal currency coins in the 1970s. These medals were issued by the Victorian Government to commemorate the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth of Britain in May 1937. The medallions were given to Victorian school children.These medallions have no known local provenance but are retained for display purposes..1 A bronze-coloured medallion with etched letters and an image of the Coat of Arms of Victoria on one side and etched letters and an image of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth on the other side. This King James version of the Holy Bible, with Old and New Testaments, was published in 1866 in London. The large Bible contains family records of Joseph Bell (born 9-5-1829) and Elizabeth Bell (born 22-101833). Joseph and Elizabeth Bell were married on 12-09-1854 in St Paul's church, in Bristol, England. The loose endpaper within the Bible is headed 'Singleton, 2nd day of 1st month 1869" It records their marriage and the birth of their ten children. between 1856 and 1878. It appears that the entries up until their 8th child were written at the same time, 2nd January 1869, with the last two entries for children number 9 and 10, written at a later date. This fits with the Bible being published in 1866. The children were Thomas, Mary, James, John, Ruth, Andrew, Joseph, Elizabeth, Lewis and Hannah. Further research is being carried out to connect this branch of the Bell family with local history.The Holy Bible is significant for being published over 150 years ago when printed books were very expensive. The book contains handwritten records of the Bell family of Bristol and is a significant source of the Bell family history. This book was given by the Warrnambool State School as a school prize to Ruddy Holland in 1933. He went from the primary school to the Warrnambool Technical School and was well-known for is sporting prowess, especially as a footballer. The Warrnambool State School in Jamieson Street, Warrnambool was opened in 1876, replacing the four Common Schools on the town. This book is of interest as a memento of the Warrnambool State School in the 1930s and of Ruddy Holland, a well-known sportsperson in Warrnambool in the mid 20th century. This is a hard cover book of 206 pages. The cover is dark green with yellow, pink, black and green floral designs on the front cover and spine. The lettering is yellow. The book has several full-page black and white illustrations, with the one at the front detached from the binding. The cover is partly detached from the binding and has been mended with adhesive tape. The book plate on the first page is printed with an ornamental red, blue and gold border. This book is a text book for senior students used at St. Joseph’s School, Warrnambool in 1891. A Catholic School was first established in Warrnambool in Kelp Street in the 1850s and later this school became Common School Number 680 situated in Kepler Street. This school was known as St. Joseph’s School after 1876 and was re-located to Lava Street in 1935. Today St. Joseph’s Primary School is located in Botanic Road, Warrnambool. The Kepler Street school building that would have been the one Minnie Beatie attended is still existing No confirmed information has been found on Minnie Beatie but there was a Mary Beatie who was born in Warrnambool in 1875 to Michael and Margaret Beatie and this may be Minnie who owned the text book. This book is of interest as an example of a science text book used in Warrnambool in the late 19th century. It is associated specifically with St. Joseph’s Catholic School, Warrnambool and with Minnie Beatie. This is a hard cover book of 144 pages. It has a red cover with red lettering on a black background on the front cover and black lettering on the spine. Inside the front and back covers is information on other books published by Blackie and Son. There are two pages of colour illustrations and many black and white illustrations. The cover is a little stained. They were not extensively produced until 1880 and had ceased by 1905.
