Ethel Bersey was born at Linton in 1882. She married James Wishart in 1910. Mr A J Horan was Head Teacher at Linton State School from 1895 to 1909. Lena Allan, one of the pupils identified in the photograph, later became a teacher at the school.Original sepia photograph of group of school children with male teacher dressed in suit and tie standing at left hand side. Mary Linton, nee Dunlop, was born in 1809 the West Indies, and married Joseph Linton in Scotland when she was eighteen. Mary and Joseph Linton migrated to Victoria in 1839, and took up a pastoral lease in the Wardy Yaloak district which they called Emu Hill. They had eleven children, ten of whom survived to adulthood. Mary died in Ballarat in 1887. The township of Linton derives its name from this family. Janet Angus was born in Linton and was a daughter of John Angus, a miner, and his wife Wilhelmina (nee Statemann) who ran a draper's shop in Linton. Janet married Richard Egan in Western Australia in 1898. She died in Western Australia in 1949. Alex Kennedy (Darkie) was manager of the Victory Mine. He first came to Linton in 1863, having previously worked for the Bridge Head Company at Brown's Diggings. He worked as engine driver at the Pioneer and Argyle Mines in Linton Park. He lived in Linton until his death in 1892. Hugh Taylor Cochrane, a farmer, miner and works contractor, was living at Linton from the early 1860s with his wife Catherine. The Cochranes had six chilfren, at least two of whom became teachers in Linton. Hugh Taylor Cochrane was a shareholder in the Good Hope Company at Linton in 1862.
