Hugh Taylor Cochrane, a farmer, miner and works contractor, was living at Linton from the early 1860s with his wife Catherine. The Cochranes had six chilfren, at least two of whom became teachers in Linton.
Hugh Taylor Cochrane was a shareholder in the Good Hope Company at Linton in 1862.
