.1) & .2) Albert Edward LADD (Bendigo) No. 1071, enlisted in the AIF on 1.8.15 in Mining Corps Coy 3, aged 29 years and 6 months. Embarked for England 20.2.1916. KIA 27.1.1916 while serving with the 3rd Aust. Tunneling Coy. This was at "Black Watch Sap Hill 70". The Germans were laying underground mines at the same time as the Australians. The Germans blew their mines at 12.40am, this combined with the Australian ammonal mines made a massive explosion killing over 20 Australians. Embarked for England 26.11.17, embarked for France 17.7.18, KIA 16.8.18 at Tincourt, France. The photo was most likely taken in Croydon, South London at the home of Stephen Tully, the elder man sitting in the photo. Betty Tully is in front of him, Eileen in the white dress. The lady in the black dress is Annie Parker. The photo was taken prior to Kedge embarking for France. Refer to Ct. Percy Andrew Goulburn MAKEPEACE No.3558, enlisted 5.8.15 aged 19 in 8th reinforcements 21st Bn AIF, embarked 29.12.1915 for Eygpt. Transferred to 57th Bn. KIA 24.9.1917 while a Bn runner. He was killed by shell fire while moving to 58th Bn near Polygon Wood.
