The photo shows an ESCo tram soon after commencement of trams in 1905, at the corner of Armstrong and Sturt Streets, Ballarat. The tram has a destination sign hung from the driver's dash canopy. On the left is the Snows Department store and a pole with telegraph/telephone wires and insulators. The Thomas Moore Statue is adjacent to the tramcar. It would appear that the trams have been fitted with dash canopy lightings which dates the photo to early 1960s to mid 1960s. Wal has dated the photo about 1913 on the rear of the postcard and about 1912 in his album notes - considered c1905 as the destinations are hanging from the front of the tram.
