Issued by the Light Railway Transport League, (LRTL), printed in London, refers to the London underground in one point. 693.2 - 12 page pamphlet, centre stapled into a green card cover, titled "50 Questions and Answers about Trams in Australia" similar in wording to the LRTL edition but with some changes. Has a photo of Brisbane FM 483 on the top of the front page. Issued by the AETA, who note the original version at the base of page 11. Published by Traction Publications, Caulfield. Record - vinyl based with paper card jacket and plastic record cover - 331/3 rpm microgroove vinyl record, or "LP", titled "Destination City". Jacket has a stylised view of the intersection of Flinders and Swanston Streets and Flinders St railway station with W2 233 in the top right hand corner. On the rear are extensive details of each of the 11 recording tracks featuring various trams around Melbourne. The vinyl disk itself has a blue label with the title, speed and side number. Produced and recorded by Ormond Slater and Ewen Cameron in 1969 with the assistance of the Australasian Post and the TMSV. Two copies held - 2nd copy added 18-9-15 - was on display in Main room until April 2015 - from Norm Cross. Rose Series postcard No. P 1701 titled "Elizabeth Street from Lonsdale Street Melbourne". Has a number of cable trams in the view, the closest one being a Brunswick tram. There is a policeman on point duty. In the view are signs for G A Grano Mantle manufacturers, Smiths Pawnbroker, State Savings Bank, MIchaels Camera store, one horse-drawn cart, and motor vehicles. On the west side footpath under an awning is a "Keep to the left" for pedestrians. Flinders St Railway Station can be seen in the far distance. Black and white photograph showing a crowded Safety Zone at the Swanston St stop for Flinders St. Has at least five trams in the view and shows how passengers could read route numbers as to their tram - can see routes 64, 8, 7 and 6 with possibly a 5 at the end of the line . Note the loudspeakers used by Inspectors to advise passengers of the trams and to stand clear when the trams were ready to depart. There is a wide variety of motor cars in the view. By the Dunklings store is a double decker bus with the destination of Spring St, advertising Zebra stove polish. Photograph of cable cars in Elizabeth St at the corner with Collins St. Has the Elizabeth St station in the view, along with Craigs and the Royal Bank. Rod Atkins advised 24/08/2020: "Dates from around 1914. taken 11.53 am in high summer. The Flinders Street Railway station looks complete but we still have all the telephone cables on poles in both Elizabeth and Collins Streets. I don't know the year they all went underground. We have two standard "Fitzroy" trams in Collins Street and one West Melbourne tram with standard eight-window trailer - no bogie trailers in the photo. Some of the West Melbourne trailers were still six window cars in the 1920's. The major building in the photo is the "Royal Bank" on the South East Cnr. of Collins and Elizabeth Street. Photograph of L class tram 102 on Swanston Street in revenue service to East Brighton route 64. The photograph looks northward over Lonsdale Street with a W class tram in the distance along with several motor vehicles. A passenger safety zone with flashing lights is in clear view along with Christmas decorations hanging from the span wires. During the 1960s, L class trams were brought back into revenue service because of a shortage of rollingstock. Because the W class tram in the distance does not appear to be fitted with side lights, this suggests the photograph is from the 1960s. The photograph shows the demolition or removal of cable tram track in Swanston St Melbourne. The reference notes that work commenced 27/12/1925 and that conversion was completed by 24/1/1926. Given the worksite it would be most likely late December 1925. Note the large unsilenced air compressor, the large crowd of on-lookers and that Swanston St northbound seems to remain open for traffic. In the background are the Royal Hotel Arcade entrance and the Melbourne Town Hall. The Second view is a wider view of the same project. This photograph is Public Records Office photo H109 in the Victorian Railways collection. Photograph from an original postcard - Southern Cross Series No. 143. of the intersection of Sturt and Lydiard St., 1930, looking south with two ESCo trams and the buildings at the intersection. Note the cab stand building on Lydiard St South. Many motor cars in the photo. ESCo trams - one crossing Lydiard St has a "Vote No" sign on it. The one in Lydiard Street has a "Pay as you leave" sign and a "Sunshine Biscuits Advertisements". The closest tram is No. 14, the number under the destination sign. Buildings in the view are the Bank of Australasia, Commonwealth Bank, Cooke & Co Auctioneer, a sign saying "Vai Purdue"? National Mutual Building and Craigs Hotel. The tram crossing Lydiard St has 6 windows - possibly tram No. 9 or 7. There a lot of switches or equipment on the centre pole by the tram with a section insulator in the overhead. The photographs taken from the Franklin St signal box in Swanston St shows the view of the signal men and traffic issues. In the first photograph, tram 498 (University, route 4D) has turned in front of tram 422? waiting for a passenger to board before travelling south in Swanston St. A motor car is threading between the two trams. In the view is a sign for Havelock Tobacco and an Ansett Pioneer bus waiting outside the Ansett Airways/Pioneer building. The second photo shows the number of trams in Swanston St and the general traffic using the intersection and the workload or the number of trams to be managed by the signalman.
