Wall display of photographs and cabinets of books as part of the Bicentennial/Heritage Week Display, "The Eltham Tradition", held in the Eltham Shire Office, 17-22 April 1988 by EDHS. The Alistair Knox Collection is a series of mounted enlarged photos of about forty images mud brick houses and related subjects. The collection is understood to have been put together by Alistair Knox although it is the work of several unacknowledged photographers. For some years it was held by the Building Department of the former Eltham Shire Council and was then passed to EDHS. Some of the photos have been used in Knox's books. Alistair Knox (1912 - 1986) is acknowledged as the founder of Eltham's mud brick building movement. Many of the buildings shown in the collection are of his design and he was also involved with the construction of several of them. Others are the work of his contemporaries and associates such as Peter Glass, Gordon Ford, and John Harcourt. Mrs Mabel Olive Hobson (nee Nichols, b. 1895), owner of Cavan House, a guest house, in Lavers Hill, was a valuable community member who did a lot around district. When she died in Colac in 1957 a memorial collection plate inscribed with her details was given to the Presbyterian Church in Lavers Hill. In 1906 Patrick Mylon started a passenger transport service in the Albury-Wodonga border area with horses and cabs. His son Jack went into business in the late 1920s, and his grandson Bernie joined the firm early in 1970. When Patrick started with the horses and cabs, each cab carried eight passengers and he always had two horses per cab. As the business expanded, Mylons used a range of buses and coaches including Reo, Chev and Bedford vehicles. During more than 100 years if service to the Wodonga region and beyond, Mylon Motorways received many awards for Excellence and tourism. On July 2, 2008 the company, including its 31 buses and 45 staff members were transferred to the Dyson Group. Tooles Disposals on the corner of High Street and Stanley Street Wodonga Jewellers was opened by Gordon and Flora McWaters in 1951. Over the years it has occupied premises at 3 different locations in High Street. Tooles Disposals, formerly Tooles Motors was established in 1939. It was taken over from William Dobbie, Automotive Engineer who set up his business on this site about 1929. It was opened by Pat Toole and later taken over by his son Bill. The Disposals part of the business was expanded in 1963 and eventually took over the entire building. The central Wodonga building was sold in 2011 and Bill and his wife Debbie moved the stock to their warehouse in Bandiana. They operated from Bandiana while also focusing on online selling.
