Programme, A Celebration of the Life of Geoffrey Robert Hendy, 1991, 10/1991
Geoff Hendy was born at Numurkah on 06 November 1945. In 1963 he was employed by the Victorian Education Department as an Administrative Officer. He moved to Ballarat in 1970 to take up the position of registrar at the Ballarat Teachers' College. In 1973 he resigned from the Education Department to become the Academic registrar at the State College of Victoria at Ballarat. He died on 08 October 1991 in Los Angeles, United States of America. The Federation University Hendy Award was established to support the professional development of the general staff of the University. The award is made biennially (in years with an odd number) The award is named in honour of the late Mr geoff Hendy, a long serving staff member of the University and its predecessor institutions. He joined Ballarat Teachers' College as Registrar in 1970, and in 1973 became the Academic Registrar for the State College of Victoria at Ballarat. In 1976 he was appointed Academic Secretary when the Ballarat College of Advanced Education was established, and later became Registrar of that institution. Geoff Hendy was still Registrar at the time of his death in 1991. Academic gowns distinguish between the University's senior office holders and our graduates. Federation University's Chancellor wears a blue robe that is trimmed with gold and features a gold embroidered frog at the shoulder and gold oak-leaf braid below the arm hole. The Deputy Chancellor and the Vice-Chancellor also wear blue robes, with gold trims and different designs inclorporating the gold oak-leaf braid, ord or tassels. The members of the university Council wear black robes with a sole of gold. Kew Historical SocietySince its foundation in 1958, members of the Kew Historical Society have been compiling and storing information about subjects relating to the history of Kew and its environs, of which this file is an example. Arranged by Secondary Values (value of records to users)Robert Gordon Menzies was a State and later Federal politician who was for many years, the member for Kooyong, and also Prime Minister of Australia. This is a large file with varied pieces of information about his life and career. It includes biographical information and details about the houses in Kew in which he lived at various stages of his life. The earliest item in the file is an electoral roll from 1911. A number of items of correspondence relate to the bust of Menzies that is located opposite the Kew Library in the Petrie Reserve. Other items include letters of condolence to and condolence cards from the family. Prime Minister Bob Hawke had a strong trade union leadership background. A member of the Australian Labor Party, he became Prime Minister after only two years in Parliament, serving in that role from 1983 til 1991. He established an "Accord" between Government, business and unions. After winning four elections he lost a caucus ballot in favour of his treasurer, Paul Keating. Sculptor Peter Nicholson was born in Melbourne in 1946. He become known for his cartoons, and in 1985 the "Rubbery Figures" TV puppets. When sculpting the busts, of Bob Hawke, Paul Keating, John Howard and Kevin Rudd he has imparted an expression of the character of the individual This item is part of the Federation University Art Collection.
