In the 1970s these chairs were in use at the end of each table in MacFarland Dining Hall. Student chairs were similar shape but without crest or arms. Significant example of the generosity and involvement of the Old Collegians towards the establishment of the school post World War 1. ... Ballarat Clarendon College 1425 Sturt Street Ballarat ...In 1972 Men's Auxilliary was disbanded and replaced with a new committee to be called The Minerva Association. Promoted in Ring-a-roo April 1972 the new association was 1) to further the welfare of College, 2) to encourage social contact between all members of the school community and 3) to promote major fund raising projects which may be beyond the means of the separate auxiliaries or the Old Collegians' Association. The Ladies' Auxiliary and the Old Collegians Association continued to exist. In 1988 the Minerva Association changed its name to the Ballarat and Clarendon College Parents' and Friends' Association. (see Ring-a-roo March 1988). The honour board emphasizes the degree to which the school was grateful for the voluntary work expended on behalf of the school by parents and friends of its community.Solid wood with two relief boards. The first award was given in 1868 four years after the school opened. The boards were one display in the Assembly Hall (Sturt Street building north wing). Two of the boards are featured in 1918 photographs of the Assembly Hall. The three boards cover the following years: 1868 - 1895 (partially defaced), 1896 - 1921 (completely defaced) and 1922 - 1952 (complete). New boards replacing these boards were created prior to the centenary celebration in 1964 and hung in the Memorial Hall. At amalgamation (1974) and because the Senior students moved to the Mair Street campus) these boards were co-opted to honour Middle School Dux and Junior Captains. In 2012 the school undertook a major project and created three new boards. ... Ballarat Clarendon College 1425 Sturt Street Ballarat ...The fire screen was gifted to Mr J J Watson at his retirement in 1952. The assembly hall at the Mair Street property was named in his honour. Mr J J watson was a member of the school council from its inception in 1919 when he was elected as a representative of Scots' Church. He succeeded Rev J T Riddle as secretary to council in 1920. In 1954 the assembly hall at the Mair Street property was officially named Watson Hall in his honour. In 1957 the constitution of the Council was amended to enable Mr Watson to be elected its first life member. The fire screen was returned to the school by the family after his death. In a tribute in 1952 at the time of Mr watson's retirement from secretarial position on council, Principal Kerr said, 'Mr watson's family was friendly with the Kennedy(founder) family in Ireland, so that his interest in Clarendon was almost hereditary. His breadth of vision, generosity, devotion to the advancement of the school in every way, and meticulous care of the property and ikts interests, have given him a unique place in the hostory of the school. The chair was part of a number of furnishings supplied by donation for the new library which was opened in 1949. These included blackwood shelves, tables and chairs and a new set of Encycopedia Britannica supplied by the Parents and Friend's Association, a grooved periodical table given by Old Collegians Younger Set, a librarian's desk supplied by the E M Bell estate and more than 200 books supplied by the Old Collegians. (see 'A lamp burns brightly' p. 61). This item is a significant example of the degree to which the school relied on donations from the community to develop the school during the post-war years.
