David Miller (Dave) Mair (1879-1938) married Lily Vipond Deakin (1890-1945) in 1910. They had 5 children: Geoffrey David (1913-1970), Beryl (1916-1976), Gwynneth (1917-1997), Isabel Lillian (1921-1997) and Shirley Inez (1928-1968). Personal communication from Laurie Newton, Beryl's daughter: Dave and Lily initially lived in East Melbourne after they married. Dave walked across the gardens to work at the MCG. He never drove or owned a car. Geoffrey, Beryl and Gwynneth were born in East Melbourne. They subsequently moved to Louise Avenue, Mont Albert and Isabel may have been born while they were there. Later they purchased 20 Barton Street, Mont Albert. Shirley was born after they moved to Barton Street. Electoral roll details: 1919 1922 24 Louise Avenue, Mont Albert 1924 20 Barton Street, Mont Albert Dave Mair was a very keen sportsman. This is part of a large donation of material from the Deakin, Mair and Young families. The Deakin, Mair and Young families had many connections with Mont Albert and Surrey Hills.A coloured photocopy of a couple identified as Lily Vipond Deakin and David Miller Mair. The original is a studio portrait of a couple behind a balustrade decorated with swags of flowers. She is wearing a hat with a large brim. This photograph of Fortuna’s Darts Team was taken in the Ballroom at Fortuna Villa, Bendigo circa 1982-1983. Darts was a very popular sport played in the Army Survey Regiment’s messes for many years. Some of Fortuna’s highly skilled exponents of formed a team to participate in in the local competition held in several pubs around Bendigo. Ephemera - Ticket - Scholars Montly ticket - 1950, State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV)
Cloth backed off white paper ticket with black printing, used for a Scholar's under 15 years, monthly tickets with a large rectangle for an expiry date stamp and printed conditions of use. Has space for the student's name, address and school to be written in. Used by Shirley Bosworth. The ticket was found behind a tram sand box and was most likely lost by the holder. It was in an almost inaccessible position and recovered when the sand box had to be removed for maintenance, along with other tickets. The certificate is part of a larger collection of material once belonging to the Kew Lioness Club, which was donated to the Kew Historical Society for safekeeping.The Lioness Club of Kew was the first Lioness Club in the Melbourne area. As such its records are of Historic and Social Significance as a record of post-war community organisations run by women. As the records were donated to the Kew Historical Society as a place of deposit, they are well provenanced. They comprise albums, objects, and a history of the Club so provide a complete picture of the Club's operation.A framed certificate presented to the Lioness Club of Kew in 1978 officially recognising the Club under the sponsorship of the local Lions Club.
