Sign, Transport Troop, est 1970's
Painted sign on 3mm gauge steel. Each side painted with diagonal red and yellow colours of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps. On one side is painted a steering wheel on which is superimposed two brown horses holding a 44 gallon fuel drum. "Transport Troop", in red, is written on a white scroll under the design. A female 25 mm galvanised pipe connection is welded to the top edge. It has a green canvas bag. -

Clothing. Guipure lace and spotted tulle bolero with sleeves. The 8cm cuffs of the sleeves are also guipure lace. The lace is of a floral design with tiny looped picots separating the floral motifs. Sleeves are of spotted tulle (.7 cm spots). The back of the bolero is shallow - just 26 cm deep, while the front dips to two peaks in the centre front.From shoulder to lower edge is 44 cms. Tool - Obstetric forceps used by Dr Michael Kloss, Jetter and Scheerer
Jetter and Scheerer were a surgical instrument maker founded in Germany in 1867. Their company symbol is that of a serpent curled around a rod, surmounted by a coronet/crown. This instrument was part of a collection of instruments used by Dr Michael Kloss in his medical practice. Dr Kloss subsequently donated this collection to the College.Metal forceps, consisting of two blades which lock together with a pin fitting. The handle of one of the forceps blades is engraved with the word 'Kloss', both on the outside and on the inner aspect. The number '26' is engraved on the inner aspect of both blades near the pin joint. The upper shaft of one blade is engraved with the word 'HOSON'. The Villa Alba Museum is cultural institution committed to the collection, study and display of 19th century interior decorative finishes, and the components of 19th and 20th century interior decoration. Most rooms in this historically and aesthetically significant house have stone (typically marble) fireplaces that are inset with plain and decorative tiles produced by the company of Mintons Ltd.Born digital photograph of the pattern of the square hearth tiles in the third bedroom of Villa Alba. The glazed decorative tiles are painted in a pattern of climbing green ivy on a black base. The tiles have borders on two sides using a repeated black and white pattern. The tiles are laid so that the pattern of the ivy extends to the rear of the hearth. An oriental element with the design is the use of bamboo on which the ivy climbs. The "Q" Theatre Guild was formed out of the Kew Light Opera Company in 1957. It marked the transition of the company that had initially been directed by Lance Nicholls to one directed by Beatrice Oakley. It continued to perform in the Kew Recreation Hall, but, with its demolition in 1960, and the opening of the new Kew City Hall in Cotham Road, moved its productions to that venue. Productions of the "Q" Theatre Guild included The Geisha (1957), Maritana (1958), They All Do It (1959), Blossom Time (1959), Love's A Luxury (1959), There And Back & The Bohemian Girl (1960), Die Fledermaus (1960), Gay Rosalinda (1961), The Land Of Smiles (1961), Kisses For A Kid & Hansel And Gretel (1961), Die Fledermaus (1962), Monsieur Beaucaire (1964), Macbeath or The Beggar's Opera, and So To Bed.The scrapbook of annotated photographs, programmes, and newspaper reviews of which this item is a part was assembled by Marion Tilley, wardrobe mistress for, and performer in, productions by the Kew Light Opera Company and the "Q" Theatre Guild. It is significant as a remarkably complete document of theatre performances in Kew, Victoria during the 1950s and 1960s. The scrapbook, and the items individually catalogued within it, have artistic and aesthetic significance within the history of performing arts in Victoria in the middle of the 20th Century. They have social significance in that they reveal socio-cultural values and preoccupations during the period. The records also act as a history of arts activities in the Kew Recreation Hall and later in the Kew City Hall as entertainment and community arts and music precincts.Black and white photograph of Thelma Hiscock in Vincent Wallace's opera Maritana. The performance was produced by Beatrice Oakley for The "Q" Theatre Guild in 1958. Music was provided by the Kew Philharmonic Society conducted by John Trotter. Marion Tilley, the creator of the scrapbook in which the photo is pasted is given credit for designing and making the costumes. Set design was by R. Jewell.
