Victorian Govenor's visit to Sandhurst (Bendigo)Agenda for The Govenor's reception by the loyal citizens of the Town of Sandhurst on Thursday 10th October 1861 On the procession appearing in view from the centre of the town, a salute of 13 guns will be fired from the Camp Reserve. Marching along High Street and Pall Mall, to Bull Street, to Hargreaves Street, down Hargreaves Street to Mundy Street and up to the Criterion Hotel, the procession will halt in front of the hotel when his Excellency, as he alights from the carriage, will receive a military salute from the Volunteers, under Captain Anderson. The procession will then proceed up Mundy Street, and along Hargreaves Street, and along Lyttleton Terrace and dissolve in the Market reserve.vice-regal visits

This type of camera was in use before bellows became common. The camera belonged to Hugh Strachan who passed it on to an employee, Charlie Lugg. The Strachan family is distinguished in the Geelong wool industry. James Ford Strachan, born in Scotland, established a very successful wool broking business and his sons carried on his work.Wooden case with brass handle lined with green felt containing one sliding box camera, with a brass fitting for a lense, a removable glass focussing screen, which conseals the removable lense inside the camera. Also two small wooden frames for developping the photographs. Also a linen cape and a leather pouch containing metal filters with gradients. Booklet about the life of Charles Lugg who owned the camera before it was passed to his nephew who then donated it to the NWM. Booklet details Lugg's military service, working life in Stachan's wool stores and life in Geelong and Moriac. Cann River is a town in the East Gippsland region of Victoria in Australia. The town is located on the Cann River at the junction of the Princess Highway and the Monaro Highway, in the Shire of East Gippsland. Before 1929 the original Cann River settlement was where Noorinbee now stands.Agricultural shows are an important part of cultural life in small country towns and these shows form an integral part of local history. As Sunbury grew from a country town to an outer suburb the town centre and shopping centre expanded along Evans and O'Shanassy Streets. The Victorian cottage on the LHS of the photograph has been demolished and a KFC complex has been built in its place.A coloured photograph of Evans Street looking south with one of the remaining Victorian cottages on the LHS and angle parking areas along the curbside. This photograph shows the wharf in the 1980's. It is the early days of tourism, and shows Helen Coulson, dressed in period costume guiding the tourists. The sign shows distances from Echuca to significant sites on the Murray River in miles, as that was the way distance was calculated in the 1870's. The sign is no longer there.This photograph shows Helen Coulson as a tour guide. Helen was the first Manager of the Port of Echuca from the mid 1970's. The tourism industry was still in it's infancy and Helen was a strong supporter of the Port.
