CLUNES LADIES BENEVOLENT SOCIETY PRESENTED ITS' 84TH ANNUAL MEETING ON JULY 27TH, 1949, AND DISBANDED 18TH FEBRUARY 1957 WHEN PROVISIONS WERE MADE BY THE GOVERNMENT IN AGED PENSIONS AND CHILD ENDOWMENT. THE SOCIETY'S SERVICES WERE NOT BEING USED, IT WAS RECOMMENDED TO THE HOSPITAL AND CHARITIES COMMISSION THE SOCIETY BE DE-REGISTERED AND FUNDS BE DONATED TO CLUNES DISTRICT HOSPITAL. This is a group photograph of RASvy serving and retired personnel at a farewell to LTCOL Peter Constantine AM, at the School of Military Survey, Bonegilla, VIC, 3rd December 1981. LTCOL Constantine was the CO of the Army Survey Regiment from 1975 to 1976 and CO of School of Military Survey (SMS) from 1976 to his retirement in January 1982. The contingent of serving and retired personnel from units across Australia travelled in civilian attire by bus to Bonegilla for the occasion culminating with a farewell dinner. Most personnel appearing in uniform were instructional staff from the SMS. LTCOL Constantine was one of RASvy’s most revered officers in this era, with 32 years of meritorious service as a leader on active duty in Vietnam in 1969 and the commanding officer of the Regiment and School. His memoirs of active duty in Vietnam ‘Surveyor - Printer Behind the Lines’ was published in 2022.This is a group photograph of RASvy serving and retired personnel at a farewell to LTCOL Peter Constantine AM, at the School of Military Survey, Bonegilla, VIC, 3rd December 1981. The photograph with annotated personnel was printed on photographic paper and is part of the Army Survey Regiment’s Collection. The photograph was scanned at 600 dpi. MMTB Tourist Bus No 79, Leyland TS8 chassis with the Canadian Carriage company body. The first photo shows a light livery when it was new in 1939 and the second a darker livery, the late 1940s. The first photo shows some possible damage to the front bumper bar. This was the second MMTB tourist bus. Imported by MMTB Chairman Bell from Canada in 1939. The body was built by the Canadian Car Co. Because of WW2, it was put into normal passenger service in July 1940 and had a mundane existence from that time onwards. It was sold to Melbourne Brighton Bus Lines however they never used it. See Reg Item 5112 for a photo of the bus in poor condition. The Double Deckers are built on Leyland TD5c chassis, with bodies by Leyland (1), Cheetham & Borwick (17), Martin & King (17) and J A Lawton & Sons (10) – a total of 45. The photo was taken at the Central Bus Garage North Fitzroy. All the DDs were ready for service in April 1940, but their issue to service was delayed due to the war effort to save fuel – continuing with the cable tram until the rope was almost worn out.
