The Kew Historical Society, founded in 1958, is one of the oldest continuing historical societies in the Greater Melbourne region. For over 60 years, the Society has worked with local government and other community organisations to stimulate interest in Kew’s history and heritage. Over this period, the Society has regularly held heritage walking tours in the district including at the Boroondara General (Kew) Cemetery. Robin Boyd wrote two books on Japanese architects and architecture - “Kenzo Tange” published by George Braziller in 1962 and “New Directions in Japanese Architecture” published by Studio Vista in 1968. During the 1960s he travelled several times to Japan to research these books and as part of his role as Exhibits Architect for the Australian Pavilion at Expo ‘70 in Osaka. This book presents a pictorial and written record of Warrnambool in 1891.It covers a wide range of topics. It provides statistical evidence relating to public buildings and organisations of that era, as well as basic information about district points of interest. The Mechanics Institute, the Common, Albert Park, the rivers, the Museum and the Sea Baths are all mentioned. The various drawings and advertisements provide a list of businesses which were prevalent at the time.As this book is one of only two complete copies documented to be still in existence, it is of considerable significance and importance to our collection. The drawings and text are artistically very much of the era and are aesthetically pleasing.Plain grey card cover with fabric binding. Handwriting on front cover and inside front cover. It contains a number of black and white and coloured plates depicting scenes of Warrnambool and the district. Peter and Hannah also had 10 children: Patrick, Hannah, John, Michael, Peter, Francis, Denis, James, Margaret and Agnes. Newspaper, Cutting from The Mail 25-3-1987 - death of Mr. Kevin Pratt a well known Ringwood resident
Kevin Pratt was one of Ringwood's best known residents when he died at the age of 77 in 1987. An amputee from the age of three he overcame his own physical handicaps and went on to encourage and help the youth of the district. He was President of the Ringwood Football Club for 25 years. His memory is perpetuated by a pavillion in Mullum Reserve which bears his name. Mr Pratt's Funeral service in Our Ladies Church in Bedford Road was well attended. The album is a collection of items of interest, mainly newspaper cuttings, from 1982, 1983 and 1984. The folder contains information and records relating to the Warrnambool Bird Observers' Group and includes records relating to Lake Pertobe, Tower Hill, The Maam, Kelly's Swamp, Nirranda, Allansford, Timboon, and Port Fairy. They were collected by Jill Heathcote (1927-2011), a Dennington resident who was for many years a member of the Warrnambool and District Historical Society, the Warrnambool Bird Observers' Group and the Warrnambool Field Naturalists Group. The cuttings and bird records reflect her interest in both local history and natural history. These two items are of considerable interest, particularly to those interested in local natural history. The scanning of the items has been completed.1. One brown plastic folder sold commercially for the storage of photographs and documents. The cover has an ornamental gilt border. The folder contains 24 cardboard pages and plastic sheets. The pages are bound with two metal screws. There are 77 items stored in this folder, most of them being newspaper cuttings dealing with natural history from 1982-3-4. The collector of the items in the folders was Jill Heathcote. 2.
