Charles Symons Wingrove (1829-1905) was Secretary, Eltham District Road Board 1858-1871 and Secretary for the Shire of Eltham 1871-1904. Nearly 50 years service to the local community. For about twelve years he also filled the position of shire engineer for Heidelberg council. Conron Grange remained in the Johnston family until 1938 when John McPhee's parents bought it, it then remained in the McPhee name until John sold it in 2003. The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo.
