Brass plaque reads "Tram No. 34 Last Tram LYDIARD St. Nth... plaque reads "Tram No. 34 Last Tram LYDIARD St. Nth. 19 -9- 71 ...The bell from the final tram, Tram No. 34, to run on Lydiard Street North in 1971. Demonstrates a conductors communication or signal bell made for use on tramcars. A reminder of the network of trams that existed in Ballarat. Brass Conductor Communication Bell consisting of cast frame, bell pull part, one nut to secure the bell to the frame and two rivets securing for the bell pull part. Yields information about the reconstruction of track at Hospital Corner and the way tram services were arranged and the corner itself.Negative and Digital image of the Wal Jack Ballarat Negative file of No. 35 crossing Sturt St while trackwork is being undertaken to replace diamond crossing at Hospital corner. The tram has the destination of Lydiard St North and is proceeding to Drummond St North to reverse. Based on Reg Item 5623, the work was done June 1951. In the background is H. E. Digital image of a BTPS training / qualification day held on 28/11/1976, at East Preston depot: From left: Richard Gilbert, Peter Hill, Paul Nicholson, Bruce Davey and Jack Chadwick standing between trams 16W (the only tram at the time on the MMTB network with a manual lap brake) and Z16. Peter Winspur advised 18/5/2020: Paul was an M&MTB driver at the time. Peter Hill would have been doing his first day and Jack Chadwick qualified as driver on that day along with Paul. We managed to train Peter in a few weeks as he was back on 19 December! Just in time for the summer running. Inspector Bruce Davey was the trainer/instruction/examiner driver. Postcard, The Post Office & Burns Statue Sturt St Ballarat, c1905
Image of the intersection of Sturt and Lydiard Streets looking north towards Lydiard St. Photograph shows a horse drawn tram turning from Sturt into Lydiard St North, while another crosses Lydiard St, heading west along the north side of the street. Photo shows the Post Office, the Robert Burns statue, and the large arc lamp in the middle of the intersection. Two copies held. The image is of an ESCo tram just to the west of the Armstrong and Sturt St. intersection with the Ballarat Town Hall, the National Mutual building in the background. Tram traveling east. Tram has a destination box on the roof, but no driver's windows, say 1906 - 1912 or 1910c. Some horse-drawn vehicles in the image. Snows has a "Summer Clearance" sign on the building. Gives details of the itinerary for the trip using a 280HP Rail car trip with the forward portion via North Geelong. Duplicated using the Gestetner process. Note the knowledge of the time, with horse tram bodies being reused to form some of the early ESCo. trams. Yields information about Sydney tramcars and that some trams were transferred to Ballarat in about 1907, but does not give detail.Letter to W. Jack dated 4/7/1939 from J. Ross, Secretary to the Department of Road Transport and Tramways NSW and attached handwritten list of tram classes, number and horsepower of motors red pencil and ink. Letter typed.
