Uniform - Badge, Stokes and Sons, mid 1910's
Pressed metal uniform badge for the Melbourne Tramways Board, workshop staff, available all lines. Round pressed steel badge with the words "All Lines" pressed into the badge around the top portion of the badge, the word "Car Works" and number "25" pressed into the lower half of the badge -with small horizontal lines within the individual letters. Has a brass finish with the Melbourne Tramways Board logo in the lower part of the badge. On rear badge two metal lugs have been soldered onto the badge and a leather strap with a button hole cut into to enable it to be worn on a uniform. Leather strap secured with wire. Used possibly from mid 1910's when the Board was formed until it was replaced by the MMTB in 1921. Sixteen page, A4, full colour, printed on gloss paper, centre stapled pamphlet, titled "Light Rail Transit Link", describing the proposal for the conversion of the St Kilda and Port Melbourne rail lines to light rail. Dated May 1987. Has a foreword by the Minister, Tom Roper, explains the system, shows high platform stops using the Hanover example, ability to couple tramcars, development of the project, an April 1987 review of the project, transport of people with disabilities, journey times, costs and saving and two page map of the system, showing a possible extension to Glenhuntly Road. Has the Victoria Transport logo on the front of the document and the Met contact and logo on the rear. Poster - full colour on semi gloss paper titled "The Met Services" showing in a diagrammatic form the Melbourne tram and rail routes. For the tram section, (similar to Reg Item 509), shows major street names, route numbers, principal suburbs, terminal names, central area (pre Docklands, post light rail to St Kilda and Port Melbourne) and ticket zones. The rail map section shows the Neighbourhood ticket zones, the rail line via Altona (the direct route is not shown) and shows the St Kilda and Port Melbourne light rail lines. Light grey card folder manufactured by the Roneo Printing Works of Rumford England with the file title "Fire Switches, glued to the top of the folder on the inside back cover. Contains many memos from the MMTB Traffic Managers, Depot Managers about the arrangements for the visit of the Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of York in April 1927. Also contains memo re cable tram arrangements for this event from Port Melbourne depot, arrangements for Christmas holidays and other holidays from about 1924 to 1944, including a map of the procession and printed programs by the Government Printer.
