The letters of the completed banner were made by different churches within in the presbytery of Gippsland and spell a sentence, presumably, "BUILD YOUR CHURCH LORD!" The MOK and MGC combined church parade was held at Spring Road Uniting Church Malvern on Sunday 15 September 1996. The Preacher was Rev Kevin Green and the Minstrel was Ken Rogers. The welcome was given by Ray Hill and Joan WilliamsBlue bi-fold paper with black text. The front has images of the Methodist Girls' Comradeship and Methodist Order of Knights badges. The bluestone church was designed by Ballarat architect Henry Richards Casselli, and constructed at a cost of 730 pounds. The church was opened on 18 April 1869. The Sunday School Hall was built c.1879. The church was closed in April 2015, and was subsequently sold. Henry Havelock Langham's father was William Henry Langham, his mother's maiden name was Lizzie A Hackett and they lived at 235 Gold Street Clifton Hill. Henry was born on 21 April 1904 at Clifton Hill. The Officiating Minister was John Hall. Alan Anderson Brash was born 5 June 1913 and died 24 August 2002, aged 89. The Wesleyan Church, Denham Street in Lower Hawthorn, as the area was then called, was opened on 2 May 1886. The building was designed by Geelong architect William Henry Cleverdon and was built of brick in the Gothic style. Its dimensions were 55 x 33 ft and the façade incorporated a rose window and spire 50 ft high. A wooden vestry was placed to the rear. The building and the organ were seriously damaged by fire on 1 April 1970, started by a painter's blowtorch. The church was not rebuilt. The organ was built in 1900 by E. Cornwall Cook, of Barrington Place, Burwood Road, Hawthorn. It was opened on 8 August 1901 by George Peake. The Swell strings may have been added (or substituted for earlier material) by Frederick Taylor, whose workshop was nearby in Burwood Road. At some stage the colourfully decorated façade pipes were repainted in a gold finish. The Rev. Ronald W Albiston 28/9/1919–16/08/2006 was educated at Melbourne Boys' High School, the Victorian Congregational College and the University of Melbourne. From a young age he held positions within the local church, was secretary of the East Kew Congregational Church at the age of 16, as well as superintendent of the Sunday School from the age of 15. Ron was supported during his life and ministry by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy. He was ordained at Northcote Congregational Church on 21 December 1942. His ministry was exercised in Northcote/Clifton Hill (1942–45), Yarrawonga and associated district (1945–50), Ballarat Dawson Street and "Zion" Sebastopol (1950–68), and Rockdale Congregational, Sydney, later Uniting (1968–83). Due to ill health, Ron retired on the 30th of April 1983. He was President of the Australian Council of Churches from 1971 to 1973, President of the Congregational Union of NSW from 1973 to 1975. As a member of the Joint Planning Committee he was involved in the development of the Uniting Church and inaugural Chairperson. Following union, he was a member and later Chairman of the Board of Social Responsibility. He was instrumental in founding the Mayflower Village for the Aged, the Rockdale Community Aid Service, and helped form the St George Community Conference.The Rev. "They came into Port" Some second war sailors staged a surprise reunion with an old shipmate at Portarlington UC recently. Eleven ex-RAN men came from as far as South Australia to be with their friend, the Rev. Alec Hilliard, who is retiring. Mr Hilliard, orgained 32 years ago, celebrated a reunion lunch with the men after the service. The men served on HMAS Junee. Alec Hilliard was ordained 1953 at Warburton (where he was minister when the Queen visited the congregation). He served at Castlemaine 1957-66; Herne Hill 1966-80; Bellarine 1980-85. Rev. Graeme Dudley Bence was born into a Methodist family on 24 December 1930 in the coal mining town of Tonyrefail, New South Wales. His family moved to Bornemouth England in 1931. He married Doreen in Bristol on 21 June 1952. Rev. Bence was ordained at East Cliff Congregational Church Bournemouth on 26 May 1953. He was commissioned to the sevice of the London Missionary Society in Papua and subsequently served in Australia starting at Hughesdale Congregational Church from 1958 to 1965 and Wyclif Congregational Chruch Surrey Hills from 1965 to 1972. In 1972 he accepted a call to the Nightcliff Church in Darwin and became Assistant Director of Mission and Service in the Uniting Church of North Australia. The Northern Synod elected Graeme Moderator from 1981 to 1983. He returned to Victoria in 1986 and retired to Rosebud in 1991. He died on 31 July 1994.Head and shoulders drawing in profile of Rev. Victor Raymond Hicks (11/8/1903–19/11/1995) born at Ballarat. Trained at Otira and accepted as candidate for the ministry in 1927. Ordained 1934. Married Lillian Harvey, 4 children. Appointments to Mitiamo, Matimuk, Woomelang, Wodonga, Kerang, Springvale, Brunswick, North Fitzroy, Geelong West, Kyneton and Brown Hill (Ballarat). Chaplaincy in WW2 and at Box Hill hospital. The article about the Mitiamo church: "Fifty years ago the Rev. Raymond Hicks was minister at Mitiamo as it celebrated its Golden Jubilee. He returned for the centenary this year and powerfully preached on 'Lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes' (Isaiah 54:2). He spoke of the great need of the church today to have a passion to lead men and women to Christ. Also sharing in the service were the Rev. Ray Scholl, a Mitiamo member before entering the ministry, and present minister, the Rev. M. Thalheimer. The centenary weekend began with an old fashioned tea meeting and concert. The Sunday school hall housed a comprehensive display of photos and historical records dating back to the Bible Christian days of 1884.
