George Cox was in Gibraltar with the British Navy when he heard about "gold" in Australia. In his latter days, as the mailman, he was granted a fisherman's license which enabled him to build a hut on the foreshore below the Isle of Wight and eastward of the Jetty. This is shown in the photograph.Scene of beach and tongue of land leading to the beach. The Jetty shed is mostly obscured by trees. George Cox became the mailman ferrying to and fro Frankston to Phillip Island. He was granted a fisherman's license enabling him to live on the foreshore below the Isle Of Wight. Hut was roughly built of brick blocks and wood. Phillip Island and District Historical Society Inc. phillip ...Granite Quarry opened at Cape Woolamai in 1891 by Chambers & Clutten of Melbourne, to supply stone for the facing of equitable buildings, Collins Street, Melbourne. Trolleys on rails brought stones to ship's side at low tide where a jib crane lifted them into the ship's hold. With high tide the ship was refloated.Granite Quarries Cape Woolamai on waters edge. A Cape Woolamai ancient crane in action. Very rocky point. Stanley Kennon originally owned Genesta House. It was sold to the Perry sisters, to Mr & Mrs Odlund, to Mrs Toovey Snr. and then to Mr H Billson who owned the guesthouse in 1935 - 36 when it burned to the ground.Front view close up of Genesta Guesthouse. The building of wood and corrugated iron roofing. Features turret front, two brick chimneys and sporting a Union Jack on flagpole, and Union Jacks draping across the verandah. The sign covering the front door says "Welcome Home".
