The newsletter from August 1958. It featured former Junior Legatee John Woodley on the cover on a visit to Melbourne. The president's introduction covered Ghana and an article mentioned the 1956 Olympics medal tally. There was a piece about the winners of the Victoria Cross. Also what school to chose for children leaving primary school and scholarships. Also an article on job opportunities for boys in the Royal Australian Navy. A newsletter published by Legacy in this format for many years from 1942. It mentions "Issued from time to time for Private Circulation among the Sons and Daughters of Deceased Service men and Merchant Seamen who served their Country during the War of 1914-18, or the present War" Many articles on the work of Legacy, including features on boys classes, girls classes, camps, the residences and where their past residents ended up. There are some suggestion for careers and some general interest articles. These are souvenir medals of the Warrnambool Industrial and Art Exhibition of 1896-7. This exhibition organised by a local committee under the chairmanship of the Mayor, Walter Hickford was one of the most important events in Warrnambool's history. It ran for three months and was said to have attracted 70000 visitors. It was held in Liebig Street and utilised both the civic centre buildings and temporary buildings erected for the event. It had several exhibition courts featuring art worksand business exhibition stands, competitions,entertainments and visiting experts in various fields. These medals were made at the exhibition at the stand of Stokes and Son. Visitors to the exhibition were able to get a gold silver or bronze medal made while they watched and the medal was then perforated ready to put on a watch chain or pendant. Thomas Stokes came to Australia in the 1850's and established a successful business in Melbourne manufacturing buttons, medals and tokens. The business was called Stokes and Son following a fire in 1893.These medals are of great significance as a memento of an important event in Warrnambool -The Warrnambool Industrial and Art Exhibition of 1896-7. Medals such as these would have been in the homes of many residents of Warrnambool and district and beyond after 1896..1 This silver circular medal has text around the outer rim and an image of Queen Victoria on the reverse. On the obverse is text and an image of the Warrnambool Exhibition building erected for the occasion. The medal is secured by a red thread , button and clear tape to a piece of card. On the card is a hand drawn sketch the Warrnambool Exhibition building and a hand drawn sketch of a profile of Queen Victoria . .2This silver circular medal has text around the rim and an image Warrnambool Exhibition building on the reverse and on the obverse a stylised coat of arms topped by the rising sun . Inside the field is a sailing ship, a pick and shovel , a sheep and sheaf of wheat .1 on the Reverse : around the rim, Struck at the Exhibition mint. Signed by the Treasurer R. Wallace and the auditor C. W. Ellis and dated. All have been stored folded in half vertically. .1 - 31st March 1901 - has dirt marks, stains, edge damage and very dirty on rear. .2 - 30th September 1901 - has stain marks, edge damage, bottom right hand corner has been folded. .3 - 31st March 1902 - has one stain, top edge damaged, dirt marks on rear, bottom right hand corner folded. .4 - 30th September 1902 - has two stains, dirt marks on rear. .5 - 31st March 1903 - has minor fading around edges. This is a reprint of the first edition of The Weekly Times – originally printed on September 11th 1869. The paper was first published by the Daily Telegraph Newspaper Company and was described as ‘a Journal of literature, sport, agriculture, science and politics’. In 1892 it was acquired by the Herald Newspaper group which has been publishing The Weekly Times ever since. The Weekly Times is now regarded as the most important newspaper especially published for those living outside of Melbourne in rural Victoria. This newspaper reprint is of minor interest as it is a copy of the first edition of a newspaper that is widely read in rural Victoria, including Warrnambool and the Western District.This is a reprint of the first edition of the Melbourne newspaper, the Weekly Times (1869). It has 16 pages and includes news items, advertisements, black and white sketches, poems, agricultural information, ladies’ columns etc. The first page has the masthead and motto of the paper – ‘The Liberal Reviseth Liberal Things’. The paper is yellowed with age and some pages are tattered at the edges. Arnall & Jackson has operated from various addresses in Melbourne. The company is famous for its printed Municipal Directories from at least 1879 until 1976.This correspondence book is an example of stationery available in Melbourne in the 1870s for use by business and commerce. The company, Arnall & Jackson, was a well-known source of Municipal Directories over decades, and are used today as sources of historical information.Correspondence book with purple cover. Pages are feint-lined and are numbered from 27 to 245, with copy sheets between each page. Inscriptions are on an oval label on the inside front cover but the book has no further inscriptions or records.
