Carl HOLMBERG No 314 enlisted in the 8th Light Horse Regt on 14.9.1914. Embarked for Egypt 25.2.1915 then Gallipoli 16.5.1915. Transferred to Machine Gun Section 28.5.1915. WIA 7.8.1915 GSW's to neck, face and right shoulder. DOW's complicated by septicemia at sea. Buried at sea between ANZAC cove and Mudros Island. Henry HOLMBERG initially enlisted as No 334. There is some confusion to it, possibly 234 in the 8th Light Horse Regt. Embarked for Egypt 25.2.1915 then Gallipoli 16.5.1915. Hospitalised with dysentery 7.8.15 then diagnosed as gastroenteritis. Embarked for Australia 16.10.1915 classed as enteric fever. Classed fully fit he embarked for England 7.9.1916 as No 26673 in 3rd reinforcements 8th FA Brigade. Transferred to 1st Div Ammunition Column 23.3.1917, mustered as Driver 4.7.1917. WIA 6.10.1917 with GSW's to left thigh, right knee, shoulder and arm severe. Discharged from the AIF 29.8.1918. Elias Samuel BABIDGE No 1312 enlisted in the 2nd reinforcements 6 th Batt AIF on 18.11.1914. Embarked for Egypt 2.2.1915 then Gallipoli 5.4.1915. WIA 14.5.1915 GSW to the shoulder. Hospitalised 3.12.1915 with enteritis. Embarked for Australia 9.2.1916 enteric. He embarked for England on 3.7.1916 with the 18th reinforcements 6th Batt. Regt No. changes to 2194. Transferred to the 59th Batt 8.10.1916. WIA 21.12.1916 with GSW to the buttocks but changed legs slight. Hospitalised 21.7.1917 with old GSW (ulcer). WIA 25.6.1918 with GSW chest penetrating. There is an Alexis Harold Safstrom No 1723, 38th Batt 1st reinforcements then 59th Batt. He was WIA twice and discharged on 31.8.1919. There are two Woodheads with an initial L. This is possibly L.H.B Woodhead No 728, 8th Batt then late in the war 25th Batt. He was WIA twice coming home late 1918. The colour patch on the uniform is possibly 8th Batt. Safstrom was from Heathcote which fits in with the donor of the items Mrs May Burns. Woodhead was from Mildura. The only connection could be that they were both in England at the same time the card was written. Albert Jacka No 465 enlisted in D Coy 14th batt AIF on 18.9.14. Embarked for Eygpt 22.12.14. He rose through the ranks from Pte to Captain by 15.3.17. He was WIA 3 times and hospitalised twice with illness. Awarded the Victoria Cross at Courtney's Post 19/20th May 1915. The Military Cross at Pozieres on 7.8.16 and a Bar to the Military Cross on 10.4.17 near Queant. He was discharged from the AIF on 10.1.20. This is a very brief history of "Jacka". Given that the photo is 1936 the first two are possibly, F/O Joshua Roger McDONALD No 86, enlisted 15.1.35. At his death on 10.12.1941 he was Wing Commander No 13 Sqd RAAF Darwin. Flying Hudson No A16-69 himself and 3 crew members were killed when the plane crashed into the sea near Ambon Island, Indonesia. Fl/Lt Robert Frederick DALTON No 37, no details of enlistment date. When he was discharged from the RAAF on 16.12.1947 he was Wing Commander at RSTN Laverton (TD & RS) F/O Frederick Attwood WITTSCHEIBE No 89 enlisted on 15.1.1935. At discharge from the RAAF on 21.5.1946 he was Wing Commander at Station HQ East Sale. There is only one WITTSCHEIBE listed on the nominal role.
