Tram has the destination of Drummond St. Nth, and has an advertisement for 60/40 dancing on Friday nights at the Civic Hall on the front panel and a SEC Electric Cooking roof advertisement. The Ballarat Orphanage building is on the right hand side of the tram. Shows the trees in Victoria St. and how the cars from Melbourne approached the tram stop. Date of photo on folder - 23/7/1961. Ninety six page book stapled with a heavy card cover, saddle stapled, printed on matt paper, titled "Talking Trams" and written by Jan-Werner Hente. Has a number of pages of light manila colour paper stock printed with a sepia ink. Many black and white photographs. Major Sections include: Pages 7 - 24 - text as if on a "Talking Tram" tram tour of the Bendigo Trust tram., with relevant photographs. Pages 26 - 47 - details briefly the history of each tramcar in the fleet at the time and some scrapped trams. Pages 48 - 49 - map of the route with reference points. Pages 52 - 69 - "If only all trams could talk" - the story of the trams in Bendigo and its mining history, including horse, battery, steam and electric trams, Victorian Railways impact and some of the personalities of the Bendigo Tramways. Pages 70 - 92 - the SEC era and closure and the early Bendigo Trust days Pages 93 - 96 - provides a rolling stock listing - all Bendigo trams. Cloth badge for sewing onto a jacket featuring a printed image of Ballarat Vintage Tramway No. 26 on a green and white background with a sewn red border. The badge has been backed onto a piece of stiff cloth and the red sewn border edge secured with a piece of adhesive tape. Produced by K. F. Williams of Hoddle St. Richmond in Dec. 1991 and advertised as being available for sale at the depot in Jan 1992 issue of Fares Please! Book, H.P. James, "Out of the Past", 1940
ESCo Employee Hours Work Record book that has been used by an ESCo/SEC inspector, H. P. James as a record / note book for his personal collection or papers or journal titled "Out of the Past". Book sewn with string in 36 page sections, blank end papers, board covers with stipple paper out sides and Rexene cloth binding. Comprising plain paper end papers and 104 printed pages (52 leaves), with each sheet printed in black on feint ruled paper for recording the hours worked and other details of drivers and conductors employed by ESCo. Printed for daily use, with Day and date page headings - made out for the 1930's. Images: Book - i1 Inside front cover - i2 Members Certificate - i3 Has been used to gather mementos such as photos, articles, newspaper clippings, letters and other miscellaneous documents on Ballarat local history. Newspaper cuttings etc often have side notes written by Mr. James. Inside front cover has certificate recording Mr. James membership to the Ballarat Historical Society for 1940. Receipt signed by Edward Crimmins. Also a newspaper cutting on the cost of pensions to Lord Nelson's family. On facing page a photo of Queen Elizabeth, a printer colour cover or sheet about Walt Disney's "Pinocchio", a newspaper cutting regarding Father's Day and a black and white photograph of a young girl in a hospital carriage being pushed by a man. Pages numbered odd numbers only in the top right hand corner in pencil. Primary items are: 1 - Coloured cover to a writing tablet, titled "Australian Birds". Newspaper clippings contained within Reg. Item 2526, page 11 and 12. Cutting on page 11 titled "Lament and Reverie on Passing of Melbourne's Cable Trams", written "By a Former Traveller", with date of 26-10-1940 in blue pence. Notes that the person was glad not to know of the last run of the Melbourne cable trams, the previous Saturday. Laments their passing, rides, crews, St. Kilda Road, the tramcars and the services provided. At the base of the cutting has a photograph of cable trailer No. 1 being off loaded in Lonsdale St. to go into the Museum. Cutting on page 12, titled "Cable Trams .... Clang Into History" written by Hugh Murphy. Appears to have been written prior to their withdrawal in Melbourne but noting their closure at the end of the year. Notes the construction, the costs, Mr. F.B. Clapp, G. S. Duncan, operations, the various routes, the services and the gradual deterioration of the track. Has the Melbourne Punch cartoon of 10/12/1885, titled "Bail Up". Cuttings have been cut out from a sheet and pasted into the book. Has a strong association with the story of the BTPS in its first four years, developing the Museum, acquiring additional trams and a brief history of the SEC trams in Ballarat.Newspaper clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, dated 10/1978, titled "Ballarat's tourist tramway carries 100,000th passenger". Printed in a "Courier Tourist" Section, gives details of the 100,000th passenger, BTPS history, that of the trams in Ballarat, closure. On the rear of the sheet continues story and gives details of the then BTPS fleet (14, 26, 27 & 28, 48 and 40). Notes that the BTPS had by then acquired No. 39, W3 661, W4 671, 33 and 11, 121, 35 and X1 463. Features photos of a bus and single truck trams together at Grenville St, a horse tram arriving at Grenville St and a photo of the BTPS depot with No. 40, 27 and 28 on the depot fan. Form used to record a summary of the working hours of crews, showing the total hours and the hours worked when one man operation. Gives a list of names at the time when the form prepared. Also used by Ray Hall as a sheet of paper to write out the details of No. 9 run for Sundays as a reference document.Duplicated typed form, foolscap sheet, titled "Summary of daily time sheets - Traffic Department", giving name, total time, one man rate time, and spread of hours.
