Yields information about early publicity methods and pamphlets of the Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society and the spelling of Ballarat with double a's, which was not adopted by the BTPS organisation.Green sheet printed as an early pamphlet for the Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society, titled "Don't forget what a tram looks like!" Printed soon after Society established. Gives address of BTPS. Note highly distributed due to the spelling of the word "Ballarat" with two "a's" - Ballaarat. Has a sketch of a bogie tram on the pamphlet. Was used as note paper in the depot for many years. Object 3656 was found with item 3655 - possibly recording who donated item 3655 originally - C. H. Yields information about one of the first two maximum traction bogie trams in Ballarat in October 1945 after it had been repainted for use in Ballarat by the SEC and a little photographed single truck tram No. 24. Also has pedestrians in view.Black and White photograph, No. 15 and 24 at the city stop, corner of Lydiard and Sturt Sts, with the Town Hall in the background. Scanned on the Canon scanner at the depot 15/12/1971 at the time of the installation of the scanner. .1 - No. 24 in bound along High St Bendigo with the discovery of gold monument in the foreground, Golden Sq route. .2 - ditto .3 - No. 26 outbound at the above location. .4 - No. 24 at the corner of Short St and High St, with the Technical college building? in the background. .5 - No. 26 at ditto, outbound for Golden Square. .6 - No. 24, High St Bendigo, with the Cathedral in the background. Ten issues of "Electric Traction" of the Australian Electric Traction Association. 1303.1 - Vol VI, No. 4, April 1951 - printed covers with four pages of duplicated notes - in poor condition, torn along centre and some edge damage. Page 3 includes notes on the Provincial systems about bogie cars going to Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong. 1303.2 - Vol VI, No. 5, May 1951- printed covers with four pages of duplicated notes - in fair condition - covers have yellowed. 1303.3 - Vol VI, No. 6, June 1951 - as for 1303.2 - in good condition - some foxing on covers. 1303.4 - Vol VI, No. 7, July 1951 - as for 1303.2 - in good condition, though the insert pages have suffered some edge damage as slightly larger in size than the printed covers. 1303.5 - Vol VI, No. 8 - August 1951 - as for 1303.2 - in good condition - includes an article on page 3 about Ballarat news - including relaying of Sturt and Drummond Sts junction, service cuts, fare increase, No. 23, and extension of the depot to accommodate bogie cars. 1303.6 - Vol VI, No. 9 - September 1951 - 8 pages all printed - includes on page 3 - item re Ballarat No. 23 withdrawn for scrapping, and bogie cars at Geelong. In good condition. 1303.7 - Vol VI, No. 12 - December 1951 - 6 printed pages - includes items re bogie cars at Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong. In good condition. 1303.8 - Vol VIII, No. 8 - August 1953 - 6 printed pages with green title details - has an item that Wal Jack was recently given a front page write up in the Courier. Shown as being printed by "Traction Press" of the same address as the publisher - Traction Publications. In good condition. 1303.9 - Vol VIII, No. 9 - September 1953 - 8 printed pages with black title details, page 3 has map of Sydney printed in red and page 6, Sydney rail system. Page 4 has item re the Geelong system and a forthcoming Transport Regulation Board inquiry. In good condition though has been folded in the middle. Printer as for 1303.8 1303.10 - Vol VIII No. 2 - February 1953 - 6 printed pages - includes Tramways of Collie WA, Sydney News, Melbourne cable car conversion dates, electric railway news and branch news and notes Basil Miller has been appointed as an Inspector in Bendigo. 1303.10 - added 28/3/2010 - sourced from donations to the Museum by R. Set of six colour slides, possibly taken on Saturday 4 September 1972, prior to the closure of the Mt Pleasant line the following day. 1 - Two single truckers at Sturt and Lydiard Streets with many motor cars. Town Hall in the background. 2 - Tram 12 (Sebastopol) picking up passengers at the stop just before the tram turned the corner into Sturt St. Driver running a one-man tram. In the background are the ANZ and other bank buildings. 3 - Tram 13 at Stones Corner - with the destination of Gardens via Sturt St. West. Administrative record - "Superintendent electric running sheds' daily return" for MMTB dated 4/5/1925 - form 71. Give details of the weather, traffic conditions, depot tram cars - bogie and single truckers Lists 1 car taken out of service - defective or accidents, provides detail of the status of fire services at depots, and watchmen's tell tales. Would have been compiled from individual depot reports. The rear of the sheet has been used to prepare a report by K L Mackenzie on applicants for the Compressed Gas Plant attendant at Clifton Hill depot. The Compressed Gas plant was part of the equipment installed to provide gas for the buses during the early stage of the Second World War. Names listed are: Hence, Wrigly, Maynard, Fay, Coates, Stephens, Lyons, and Langton. See item 7521, 7516 and 7518 for similar reports. Mentions track in Wendouree Parade, temporary storage of trams in the depot, tramcars to be allocated to the BTPS, findings of the Tourism Committee and comments from Councillors. Also notes statement by Mr. Tom Evans about the approval of the SEC for the used of the existing depot for storage until the new depot is built. Set of four green Fuji Film green plastic slides during late 1960's of: 1 - tram No. 11 southbound in Lydiard St North, at the level crossing with destination of Sebastopol. Has Osborne House in the background. .2 - ditto with tram 39 showing special .3 - Bogie tram crossing No. 11 (showing City) at Gregory St. No. 11 has a Twin Lakes sign .4 - Part of one of the timetable board as the City terminus, Sturt and Lydiard Sts. .5 - No. 17 with driver/conductor reversing the pole. Functional Object - Tramcar, Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board (MMTB), Tram 1029, 1956
A four motor bogie drop centre combination tram of the Melbourne W7 class No. 1029, built at Preston Workshops during 1956, entered service on 1/2/1956. Fitted with sliding doors, Remote Control equipment. See webpage btm.org.au/trams/504.html Spent it appears all its life at Preston or North Fitzroy Depot. Transported to Newport Workshops during 1995. More to come here.
