Pamphlet - full colour - folded A3 - "The Melbourne Tram", giving details of the proposed tourist tram service that was to be effective Oct. 1992. On the inside has a map showing the proposed routes, a morning and afternoon tour, fares and how to book. Has a image of Y 469 on the front cover. Randal advised that Y469 was painted dark green very briefly in 1992 - an initiated of the Kirner Government to operate "The Melbourne Tram" as a tourist service. Sign, painted onto a MMTB auxiliary destination board of the type that could hang on the front of a Melbourne tram car with the words "Australian Electric Traction Association Special Car". Used for special tours by the AETA. Metal sign, fitted with metal hanging brackets, riveted to sign on both sides. Manufactured by rolling the outer edges over a 4mm diameter steel rod. Has been painted over a an old sign "Direct to Trotting Showgrounds??? via Abbotsford St 3d". Second sign painted over a sign that had on one side "Via Elsternwick" and "Via Balaclava Road". Denis Gibbons (1937 – 2011) Trained with the Australian Army, before travelling to Vietnam in January 1966, Denis stayed with the 1st Australian Task Force in Nui Dat working as a photographer. For almost five years Gibbons toured with nine Australian infantry battalions, posting compelling war images from within many combat zones before being flown out in late November 1970 after sustaining injuries. The images held within the National Vietnam Veterans Museum make up the Gibbons Collection. A black and white photograph of Lt. Ticket dated 21 August 1971, for use on an ARHS / TMSV joint tour to Farewell Ballarat Trams - the first day of the closure of the system. Ticket base is white with three vertical green stripes, which is printed in landscape format. Has been over stamped "Farewell Ballarat Trams" and "Tramway Museum Society of Victoria". From memory, these tickets were bulk printed by the Victorian Railways for the ARHS and the over stamped for use on particular days/events, meals etc. Would have been used as the tram ticket on the day. Ticket used by Graeme Breydon on the day of the tour. Photograph shows a female journalist with notebook in hand being shown the controls by a uniformed tramway employee at a depot yard, most likely Hawthorn depot. Photo undated and no details of the paper and it is post trove scanning at the time of cataloguing. The cutting notes that it appears much simpler than driving a car. Note the table card in the employee's pocket. The journalist is probably from the women's pages of one of the metropolitan newspapers. Her coat would have been very expensive and definitely extremely fashionable - which is why it is thought she was from the women's pages of one of the major papers. The coat appears to be real ocelot fur dating it to about 1963. The photograph shows Z-class trams 3 and 5 being fitted out or constructed at Preston Workshops, 1975. Z3 has been fitted with a trolley pole and other equipment, while Z5 is on stands. There are a number of people looking at Z5, which indicates a possible workshop tour. The tours database does not give a formal enthusiast tour of Preston in 1975.
