Certificate, John Phillips, BTPS Driver's Certificate, mid 1980's
BTPS Tram Drivers Certificate printed on fawn stippled paper with brown ink printing and BTPS Tram loco on left BTM corner. Stamped No. 1 and dated as issued to Driver Gavin Young on 22/12/74. Signed by R.Gilbert Traffic Manager. These certificates were printed in the mid 1980's and backdated to when the driver's passed their exams. On the reverse side there is no printing and it is a white sheet of paper. Note: Used for driver's certificates until the BTPS was renamed to the BTM, then a new type issued. Could be on a Special tour, given the passenger loading on the tram. Photo taken late 1960's. The slide appears to be a copy slide, given the nature of the colour and the additional number WP417. Photographer could be Bill Pearce (WP). Slide rescanned at 3200 dpi 25-10-2020, jpg replaced, tiff file retained. Yields information about one of the first two maximum traction bogie trams in Ballarat in October 1945 after it had been repainted for use in Ballarat by the SEC and a little photographed single truck tram No. 24. Also has pedestrians in view.Black and White photograph, No. 15 and 24 at the city stop, corner of Lydiard and Sturt Sts, with the Town Hall in the background. Tram has a roof advert for Bendigo Timber Co. Masonite and a Cohn's Drink ad on the front of the tram. In the background are roof advert for Mobilgas on the Beehive Building, Ezywalkin building, A. G. Treloar Optician and Evlyn Amer? shop for Infants Girls and Ladies Wear. There is a large number of Holden motor cars in the photos along with bicycles parked by the Ezywalkin shop. Yields information about the planning options that were used for formulate garden routes timetables at various service levels.Single rolled graph sheet which has two sets of runs drawn on it, showing the Gardens via Convent and Ripon St routes from Grenville showing how the tram service would operate and where the trams crossed each other. One graph set shows a 6 car, 7.5 min service and the other a four 10 minute service. Gives the miles and minutes. Would have been used to prepare rosters and timetables. Metal based match box holder, formed from tin plated steel sheet, folded around all edges to include a printed plastic cover marked "Souvenir of Wattle Park, Melbourne Vic.", including on the sides an image of the Chalet and on reverse, contact phone number (WX1322), and what the venue would cater for. Has a note that is was open on Sundays and Holidays as well. Not known when made or used or who by. Phone numbers with alphanumeric numbers phased out during the late 1950's. Drawing - red ink drawn on a print showing an extension to the single track, Maribyrnong tram line to run further into the Explosives Factory. Original print from the Commonwealth of Australia, Dept of Munitions, Factory Board drawing number W-1163 titled "Explosives - Munitions Supply Laboratories Proof at Rest - Maribyrnong" and dated April 1933. Marked in red ink is a "Explosive Factory Cordite Ave - Proposed Tramway Extension shown red". Not dated, possibly early 1940's. Sign, Selex Decal, "Please Step Inside", 1970's
MMTB decal - "Please step inside" for the use on the exterior of tramcars, glued transfer adhered to a sheet of gloss paper on one side and plain on the other with the transfer instructions made by Selex Decal in the 1970's, with alignment marks on the rear. Has the Selex Decal logos on the rear and the number "098051751" along the bottom edge. Refer to MMTB Drawing R10-138 for a drawing. Three copies held, two wax paper separate sheets, cardboard protective strip. Photo during the early to mid 1940's. Tram has an Auxiliary board "Via Dandenong Rd" and showing, Route 67. At the time, Route 67 ran from St Kilda ran from Balaclava Junction to St Kilda, Acland St via Dandenong Road. Ceased in 1955. See Reg item 815 for details. Each wallet has been fixed with a stamped brass plate riveted to the outside with the depot and outfit number. Pamphlet titled "Short Trips around Melbourne and Suburbs by Bus and Tram", two colour printed document folded into 8 on buff coloured paper, featuring 14 various trips around Melbourne, with a detailed description of each route, time, fare and notes. On reverse side is a detailed map of the MMTB tram and bus routes - from map date document mid to late 1960's - old route numbers eg 4D and Point Ormond and Footscray have closed. Letter - Correspondence, My Darling Mum, 23rd April, 1945
The letter was written by Allen Quinn to his mother. Allen started working as a seafarer when he was 16 years old, and frequently wrote to his mother during his travels. He also created an extensive photograph collection, which corresponds with the letters.The letter is part of an ongoing correspondence between Allan and his mother. This letter mentions the S.S 'Morgenster', the South African ship Allan was working on at the time, and also which he was signed off from because of South African law.Letter addressed to Mrs S. Quinn, "Sanlorenzo", 63 Ocean Beach, Manly, N.S.W, Australia, in three parts. Part 0152.1 Envelope Part 0152.2 Letter Page, 0152.3 Letter Page. Both the envelope and letter were white paper, which is now a yellow-white. The letter begins "My darling Mum, I hope that you have not worried..." and concludes with "Your loving son, Allan...". Printed across the top of 0152.2: SOUTH AFRICAN MARINE CORPORATION, and handwritten beneath: S.S 'Morgenster', 23rd April, Baltimore.Front of envelope: SENATOR HOTEL / 136 WEST SECOND STREET / RENO, NEVADA (printed) / MRS. In 1893, Simon Brown formed a partnership with Charles Turner in Williamson Street, Bendigo, trading as Brown&Turner. The partnership had ceased by 1900 when the business was relocated to a modern two-storey brick building at 8-12 Queen Street where it traded as S. Brown & Company.
