One Hundred page book with nine fold out plates tipped in, green card titled "The Westinghouse Brake - Reference Book", published by Westinghouse Brake Co. in 1904. Text has been sewn into sections and then bound into the book. Plate inside front cover, has been printed in colour showing the extent of the use of the Westinghouse brake system that had been adopted on the various railways. Plat 110E (page 43) has an orange plastic component acting as a brake handle and showing how the various ports and parts interrelated in the valve. Inside the back cover are two loose folded sheets, plate 209 and 209A, Improved triple valve and the "Graduating Release Valve", dated August 1905. Covers compressed air brake systems on railway trains, showing how they are designed, operated, parts listing and has a number of pasted in erratum in the book. Manual - Public Transport Corporation Memo 7541, Public Transport Corporation Victoria, 1993
The Public Transport Corporation (PTC) was a Victoria State Government owned statutory authority formed under the Transport Act 1983 which operated passenger and freight trains, trams and bus services. It was established on 1 July 1989. This memo was effective as from Sunday 16th May, 1993 and pertained to rules instructions and operating procedures regarding air brake equipment and train examination requirements. As noted on the cover: "Part One - Supersedes Automatic air brake rules, pages 479-495 of Book of rules and regulations. -- Part Two - Supersedes Air brake orders, pages 189-198 of General appendix." The cover bears the signatures of M. Digging, Safeworking Superintendent and G. De Bont, Group Manager, Freight Fleet Maintenance.A booklet with a red cover and black print. Newspaper clipping from The Courier of Ballarat of Wednesday July 8, 1970, part of front page reporting that a privately owned bus service seems certain to replace Ballarat trams by the middle of next year. Government expected to abolish Ballarat and Bendigo trams at the September sittings of Parliament. The Mayor Cr. Mills said he would be disappointed if the Government did not act immediately to abolish the trams. Notes the Government now has a majority in both houses, large financial loss from tram operation, Labour and Union opposition, Council considers the equipment out of date. Quotes Mayor, Cr. Two sheets of ruled paper (blue horizontal lines, red vertical lines - from a financial ledger?) prepared giving a list of Rolling stock operated by the M&MTB in Feb. 1945. Gives class of tram, car numbers, number in service, type, capacity, trucks, wheel and truck centres, motor type and horsepower, tare, controller type, compressor type and length over bumpers and some notes on disposals. Class of cars given are A, C, G, L, T, U, W2, SW2, W3, W4, CW5, W5, SW5, SW6, X, X1, X2, Y and Y1. Note A and G comprise mixture of single truck cars of different classes. Gives car numbers. Gives costs of welding, bonding, rail resistance, voltage drops, testing methods, electrolysis, rail expansion, rail section, sleeper track, treatment of ties (sleepers), and the monthly average price of copper from period 1885 to Dec. 1915, the power required for electric traction and a list of clients. Twenty four page book with light card covers, side stapled and green cloth bound titled "The Oxy-Acetylene Resurfacing of Railway Crossings". Cover green paper with darker green mottled finish. Cover and title sheet printed in black ink, the rest printed by Gestetner process using stencils with hand drawn sketches. Gives information on the resurfacing of railway crossings using oxy acetylene rods, including equipment, preparation, flame adjustment, procedures, notes, protection and material consumption. Includes an index. On inside of rear cover has printed "Issued by / Sales Department / The Commonwealth Industrial Gases Limited / Alexandra NSW" No date given for printing, possibly c1960.
