2 COPIES OF HISTORIC RECORD OF CLUNES POST OFFICE, WHICH WAS OPENED IN OCTOBER 1857, CLUNES WAS A MAJOR GOLD-MINIG SETTLEMENT AND WAS THE SITE OF THE DISCOVERY OF GOLD IN 1851 . IN 1857 IT HAD A POPULATION OF 22O, IN 1861 THERE WERE 1711 IN 1881 5811 IN 1891 3486 IN 1901 2426 LONG YIELDING QUARTZ MINES WERE LOCATED AT CLUNES. THE TOWN IS LOCATED ABOUT 33 KM NORTH OF BALLARAT. IT BECAM AN LPO ON 4 JANUARY 1994 BARRED NUMERAL CANCEL 147 WAS USED AT CLUNES.
