This ledger contains copies of titles in the Warrnambool district, dating from 1916 to 1933. It came from the office of John William Crawley Junior, an engineer, surveyor and architect in private practice in Warrnambool and also the engineer for the Shire of Warrnambool from 1895 to 1935. His father, brother and son were all engineers, working in that capacity or as the Shire Secretary for the Shire of Warrnambool, with the Crawley family recording a total of 132 years of service to the Shire. The Shire of Warrnambool existed from 1863 to 1994. This ledger was passed on John Crawley’s son, Rolf, who was the engineer for the Shire of Warrnambool from 1935 to 1968. It then came into the possession of Michael Hand, who took over the private surveying business of Rolf Crawley in Warrnambool. The Warrnambool and District Historical Society acquired the ledger, along with several other Crawley ledgers, from the estate of Michael Hand. This ledger is of considerable importance as it contains copies of titles from the Warrnambool district in the early decades of the 20th century. It will be of great use for researchers.This is a hard cover book of 205 pages. The cover has red leather binding and is torn and scuffed. The book contains copies of titles and other handwritten and typed material and there are many loose titles, envelopes and miscellaneous sheets of paper. The Gladstone bag was first developed in the mid 19th century and was named after British politician William Gladstone, a four-time Prime Minister of the United Kingdon. Dr Mitchell Henry O'Sullivan worked in the Victorian country town of Casterton as a general practitioner from 1919 until his death in 1977. He also practiced obstetrics. His son, Dr David More O'Sullivan donated his obstetric bag and its contents to the College in 1999. The bag and contents are a unique time capsule of the type of instruments and pharmaceuticals used in the inter-war period.Leather gladstone bag with leather handle and leather strap. Max Fletcher became Galen Catholic College's 1st lay principal in 1987, taking over from Sister Anne Boyd. Mr. Fletcher served as the school principal until the end of 2001. During his time as our principal, many building projects were undertaken and the number of students at Galen Catholic College continued to rise. The most significant development during Mr. Fletcher's tenure was Galen College becoming a one campus school in 1990. Mr Neal is the longest serving principal that Galen Catholic College has had. Women’s Auxiliaries were formed by mothers, wives, widows, sisters, daughters and aunts of men who served in the First World War. In May1918 a small band of women from the "Friendly Union" organised themselves,under the leadership of Mrs F C Purbrick, into a Women's Auxiliary of the Wangaratta Returned Soldiers Association (RSA). Their first task was to furnish club rooms for the RSA and this was achieved by seeking donations and raising money by selling jams, jellies and posies of violets by selected girls wearing special badges in the street. Over the years funds have been raised through raffles, competitions, street stalls and catering at numerous events to assist the aims of the Returned Services League. In 2018 the Wangaratta RSL Women's Auxiliary celebrated its centenary. Women have played a central role in sustaining the activities of ex-service organisations. Women's auxiliaries are dedicated to fundraising, supporting the activities of their local RSL, and caring for veterans in their wider community. This community newsletter is titled "City of Caulfield Civic Week - Nov. 16-22, 1958", and describes the idea behind Civic Week by the Mayor as being “to promote a new and more active Community spirit, to create a greater public interest and participation in Community affairs, to emphasis the important part played by local government in the Community and to bring to all Citizens a new awareness of their City as a progressive part of the Metropolis”. It contains a program of functions to be held during Civic Week in 1958, and the middle pages contain the article “Be Careful When Driving or Parking a Car”. This one page community newsletter (folded in the middle to create 4 pages of text) is titled "City of Caulfield Civic Week - Nov. 16-22, 1958".

This digital image is taken at the time of the opening of the 'Annie Dane Ward' in the Melbourne District Nursing Society After-Care Hospital. Mrs. G. G. Henderson is the Society's President. She is receiving a Centenary gift, a cheque of 500 pounds, from Mrs. Robert Hunter, on behalf of Mr. John Stephenson Dane. Mr. Edgar, M.L.C,. officially designated the Ward and The Rev. A. T. Holden, President-General of the Methodist Church of Australasia, dedicated the Ward. The portrait of Mrs. Annie Dane hangs above the fireplace in the Ward.The Melbourne District Nursing Society, (MDNS), built the After-Care Home in 1926. The Home was extended and the name changed to Melbourne District Nursing Society and After-Care Hospital in 1934. It was situated at 45 Victoria Parade, Collingwood and various Wards were named after donors or patrons of MDNS After Care. Patients of the Society who needed more care than could be given at home, but did not need hospitalization, were admitted to the After Care, along with many patients from Melbourne hospitals who needed further care before going home. Many children were nursed there, some long term, during the Polio epidemic and MDNS employed teachers to give them schooling. In September 1930 an Ante-Natal Clinic was established. In October 1934 a Women's Welfare Clinic was opened to educate women on birth control. This was the first of its kind in Melbourne. The MDNS After Care Hospital was under District's banner until 1956. In 1957 the MDNS and the After-Care separated with the Government taking over the running of the After-Care. Melbourne District Nursing Society then became the Melbourne District Nursing Service and, after Royal patronage, became Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS).In the centre of this digital image, and on the left of the group, is Mrs. G.
