Playbill: The Evening Strollers, Gadsby's Girls & The Digger's Lawn Party, 1919
Murray Comrie Collection. A playbill for a performance titled 'The Evening Strollers' and subtitled 'Gadsby's Girls & The Digger's Lawn Party', held at the Victoria Theatre, Tarnagulla on Saturday October 4, probably 1919. States that performance will raise money for 'Soldiers Memorial Stone; Mechanics Library and Strollers Club'. Performers include: Miss F. Norwood, Mr. H. On 20th August,1909 the Laanecoorie Weir broke away and released 18.3 million cubic metres of water through the opening and causing severe damage to all towns downstream. At Newbridge, Petersen's bakery collapsed and Simpson's Store and Hotel flooded to the roof. The billiard table was later found in a tree five miles down the Loddon near Learmonth. Murray Comrie Collection. Monochrome photograph depicting wooden building being moved by traction engine. This is probably the building built in the 1850s as the Welsh Church in Tarnagulla. In 1893 the church was sold and the building was removed to Llanelly, where it was remodeled and became St. David's Church of England and served as such for quite a number of years. It is probably this move which is depicted in this image. During the early 1970s, with the decline in population at Llanelly, it was necessary to close the church which was sold and removed to Bradford for a private amenities hall. Murray Comrie Collection. The monument was created and erected by Mr. Barber of Dunolly in October 1919. It was unveiled by Brigadier General Brand C.B. C.M.G. D.S.O. at 2:30pm on Saturday November 8th, 1919. The Welcome Home Committee, formed 2nd July 1917, was largely responsible for commissioning the monument. Foundation members were Mrs. B. Patterson, Mrs J. Bock and the Misses P. Lemin, Violet Radnell, D. Dyer and Doris and Phoebe Bock. The Committee arranged 'Welcome Home' functions for each local soldier returning home after service in the First World War. Tarnagulla had a very large number of enlistments for its population. Angus M. Comrie is standing to the right of the Memorial with his daughter Mavis Comrie, and Nell Alexander. Mavis Comrie presented a new Union Jack flag to the Tarnagulla School on 25th July 1919 to commemorate Peace. Peace Medals were also distributed to the school students.Monochrome photograph depicting the unveiling ceremony for the Soldiers' Memorial monument in Tarnagulla.
