Stawell was known as a gold mining town. The Stawell Town Hall clock and tower were erected by Mrs Norman Kelly in memory of her late father Cr George Barnes, a councillor of the Borough of Stawell over a period of 47 years, and also her mother, the late Emma Barnes. 10 May 1939. The animated mining scene on the Stawell Town Hall was incorporated into the tower from a bequest by Emma Kelly. Poison Cart
Cart was operated by the Briagolong Rabbit Suppression League. It was purchased by the donor at the clearing sale for Jim Kelly in the late 1980s/early 1990s. Jim was the son of the main organiser of the Briagolong Rabbit Suppression League. Copies of the Minutes and accounts have been obtained, and are catalogued separately. Wood on cart was in much degraded condition, whole cart repaired by George Parker of the Stratford and District Historical Society, 2010.Rabbit poison cart by T.H. Hicks of Sydney. Consists of wooden frame and floor 80cm high, wheels with cast iron hubs. Chain-driven from one wheel, operator's seat at rear, with a lever mechanism to control the trench forming attachment. The maker and date of this object is unverified due to lack of supporting evidence. It is unknown as to the significance of the engraved Phoenix. Antique Sheffield electroplated silver, copper basket with swing handle. The bowl of the basket is octagonal with incised geometric and circular pattern along the perimeter. Engraved in the bowl of the basket is an image of a phoenix including a smaller image of a phoenix engraved on the swing handle. A weatherboard church was built c1857 at a cost of 400 pounds. Itg also served as a school house. The brick church was built in 1969 at the cost of 714 pounds.
