The bus petrol engine International type was formerly in the possession of, one, Cruickshanks, an independent driver with a permit from the council to run between The Point of Pictures?, Ness St, Mt Pleasant via Bond St, Peel St. to City but the Electric Supply Coy purchased the vehicle and ran it from 1927 to 1929 (unpayable). The most use it was put to was on Mt Pleasant, but it ran also to High School as replacement for trams on Sebas if an electric tram was derailed. Perhaps the most unique trips it ever made was between Forest St. Wendouree to the Aerodrome, 1929, on the occasions of any ?? flight. Two Newspaper clippings or Illustrations contained within Reg. Item 2488, page 81 showing two ESCo trams (one Californian combination and the other a Sebastopol tram) in Sturt St near Grenville St, with the original tramway shelter in the background and the other the mass photo of horse trams (See Reg. Item 2491) and hand written notes about the two photographs by H.P James. James notes the circumstances of the 2nd photo - taken to show the Directors of ESCo in Liverpool Ballarat and their tramway assets. The Second photo James says was taken c1923 (just) - prior to the removal of the shelter. Also provides notes on the colours of the tram route indicators and times of services. Five page handwritten letter on light brown or fawn lined paper within a brown envelope within Reg. Item 2488, page 105. The envelope has been glued to the back cover of the book and is address to "Mr. James Inspector / Electric Supply". Seven overseas stamps have been stuck to the envelope. The letter dated 11/10/1937 from an unknown person who lived at 305 Eyre St Ballarat, not signed, outlines the building the horse tram depot in Wendouree Parade. The person put in a quote as the plumber. Notes various aspects of working on the site, materials, difficulties, Thompson and Moore of the Adelaide as the contractors, number of people on the job, problems with the construction, wind damage, building the workers cottages, their rooves and the cash boxes for the conductors. Typed and stencil printed manuscript or article on the retirement of ESCo driver Bob Haines in 1939 and a report on the gathering to farewell him on 29/11/1939, pasted into the pages of the book. Has "Reminiscences of the Tramways 'Grand Old Man'" by "Baker" James outlining Bob Haines tramway life of 52 years from horse tram days, sporting involvement, social functions, tramway happenings, industrial and Ballarat life in general. Certificate, City of Ballaarat, "Public Inoculation Depot / Pneumonic Influenza", 1919
Certificate contained within Reg. Item 2526, page 8 titled "Public Inoculation Depot / Pneumonic Influenza". Printed form on paper with perforated left hand edge, to record the H.P. James of ESCo had received the two injections for the Spanish Influenza outbreak of 1919. Formed signed by Geo. F. Morton as Acting Town Clerk. Has been stamped that the second injection had been received. The required date for the 2nd injection was 4/2/1919. H.P. James refers to the outbreak in the item on the retirement of Bob Haines (Reg. Item 2529), and notes he was the "Dispenser-Inspector" of two quinine powders to each man and that they had to wear gauze masks. S Note Item Not formally Numbered. Functional object - Fare Token/s, Electric Supply Co. of Vic (ESCo), 1913
Demonstrates aspects of the Ballarat Tramways fare system at the time of the one man trams, tokens which could be pre purchased by travellers and save time when boarding trams. See notes on file re these eg Reg Item 1801. Fare tokens - 1 1/2d - 21mm diameter - light brown celluloid - with "B.E.T." in large capitals on front centre of token and words "Ballarat Electric Tramways 1913" on circumference.
