The photograph was taken from the rear of the Emu Bottom Homestead and its outbuildings. George Evans, one of the earliest European settlers in Sunbury, built Emu Bottom homestead in the 1830s. The original building was made from Silurian sandstone cut from the surrounding hills. The Wodonga Historical Society Haeusler Collection provides invaluable insight into life in late nineteenth and early twentieth century north east Victoria. The collection comprises manuscripts, personal artefacts used by the Haeusler family on their farm in Wodonga, and a set of glass negatives which offer a unique visual snapshot of the domestic and social lives of the Haeusler family and local Wodonga community. The Haeusler family migrated from Prussia (Germany) to South Australia in the 1840s and 1850s, before purchasing 100 acres of Crown Land made available under the Victorian Lands Act 1862 (also known as ‘Duffy’s Land Act’) in 1866 in what is now Wodonga West. The Haeusler family were one of several German families to migrate from South Australia to Wodonga in the 1860s. This digital image was produced from one of the glass negatives that form part of the collection, probably taken by Louis Haeusler (b.1887) with the photographic equipment in the Wodonga Historical Society Haeusler Collection. Parker Family - Samuel Skelton Parker, Jack Parker’s father, migrated to Australia from Ballymena, Country Antrim, Ireland in 1884. He married Bridget Cusack from County Clare in 1883. They had children William, James, Jack, Samuel and Rachel. After working on a station in northern NSW, they moved to Barnawartha and set up a butchery and later a bakery. In 1890 the family moved to Wodonga, buying a property in West Wodonga, which he called “Park Hall” after his home in Ireland. The property is now the location of the Wodonga Golf Club in Parkers Road, West Wodonga.This item is unique and has well documented provenance and a known owner. It forms part of a significant and representative historical collection which reflects the local history of Wodonga. It contributes to our understanding of domestic and family life in early twentieth century Wodonga, as well as providing interpretative capacity for themes including local history and social history.Digital image created from the Haeusler Glass negative collection. Cyril Leyshon White was an official war artist during the Gallipoli Campaign in WWI. He contributed a number of his sketches for “The ANZAC Book". After WWI he became a mentor to the young Sydney Nolan. Lt. White was a member of the 17th Garrison battalion attached to Tatura Camp 1. Landscape. These two sheets show the 1897 plans drawn up by the Victorian Railways for the erection of the Warrnambool Railway Station building. It is a two-storey building still existing today. The railway came to Warrnambool in 1890 and they must have used temporary buildings for seven years before this railway building was erected. It had offices, booking counter and public facilities on the ground floor and housing for the Station Master on the first floor. The building erected was a typical design for country town railway stations and many of similar design were erected in the 1880s and 90s. These plans are important because they show clearly the design of the Warrnambool Railway Station buildings when they were first erected in the 1890s.They will be very useful for researchers. The coming of the railway was a significant event in Warrnambool’s history and did much to make the port and shipping a less viable proposition.These are two architect’s plans and drawings of the Warrnambool Railway Station building (1897). The drawings are black and white and the first plan shows the ground floor plan and the first floor plan and the outbuildings. The second plan shows drawings of the building with its elevation to the platform and its elevation to Merri Street. There are two stamps of the Railways Department, Melbourne. The Kraft Walker Cheese Co Pty Ltd entered into an agreement with Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory Company in 1935 whereby the Kraft company leased premises from WCB. This arrangement remained in place until the 1990s. WCB took over the Garvoc factory in the 1920s. It became outdated and was eventually demolished.Black and white photograph showing timbered building with iron roof and turned wooden finial on the gable end. Mrs Emily Mosley/Moseley, nee Hunt of Ingrams Road, Research, sits on a horse drawn cart, dressed for an outing, with her husband George Mosley. Small outbuildings, possibly outhouses are on the hilled property. The couple had ten children. George died in Brunswick in 1926. Emily (born in Keilor Downs) died in 1949 aged 85. This shed was on part of the orchard property of Mr Henry Ireland of 12 Quarry Road Mitcham. He has cleared the property and planted an apple orchard by about 1910. When he died in 1947 the orchard was cut up. Mrs Ireland lived in the house until she died.
