As an historic army uniform with an association to Victoria this item is of local historic and social significance. It is also in very good condition. Woolen khaki peaked hat has a central head band with solid peak connected to the lower front of the head band. The top is high at the front and protrudes out from the headband about 3cm on all sides. There is a brown leather chinstrap on the lower front of the headband above the peak and this has a slide extension that can be enlarged to go under the neck to keep the hat in position in high winds. The chin strap in connected to the headband with two plastic button that have queens crown above a map of Australia. Affixed to the front of the headband above the peak is the Artillery Corps metal hat badge in gold colouring. The interior of the top of the hat has a cotton lining under the woollen exterior and then a plastic protective lining to avoid sweat bleeding onto the exterior. A cloth badge with the makers name sewn to the cloth lining and covered by the plastic protective layer. uniform

This hat was worn by members of the Country Fire Authority on ceremonial occasions.A peaked black woollen gaberdine fireman's hat with a black petersham band edged with silver binding. Marion “Annie” (Cooper) Harrison, a milliner by trade, designed and made women’s hats, initially in the 1940s in High Street, and later in the 1950s and 60s at 5 Princess Street. The hats were constructed upstairs in her shop in Princes Street while the ground floor was reserved for sales and display. She employed other milliners to assist but always ran the showroom herself. Hectic periods were in the weeks before the big racing carnivals when the many wealthy race-goers of Kew kept her busy. She typically walked to her business as she and her husband, Fred Harrison, lived locally. Annie died in April 2016, at the great age of 107 years. Her hats are held in local and national collections. This hat was worn by Kathleen Gervasoni, long term resident and former Mayoress of Kew, who purchased it from Anne Harrison.The Kew Historical Society’s fashion and design collection is comprised of costumes, hats, shoes and personal accessories. Many of these items were purchased or handmade in Victoria; some locally in Kew. The extensive hat collection comprises items dating from the 1860s to the 1970s. While most of the hats in the collection were created by milliners for women, there are a number of early and important men’s hats in the collection. The headwear collection is particularly significant in that it includes the work of notable Australian and international milliners.High crowned, taffeta lined, maroon velvet hat, designed and made by Anne Harrison of Kew. The hat features a narrow stiffened peak of the same fabric at the front and highlighting at the rear of the peak and on the crown in pale pink grosgrain braid. This tunic and cap were worn by Major General H H (Tack) Hammer CBE DSO & Bar, ED when Honorary Colonel 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles Regiment 1959-1960 Hammer had pre-WWII service with 8th Battalion and 17th Light Horse (Machine Gun) Regiment. He served with the 6th Division in North Africa and Greece before becoming Commanding Officer of 2nd/48th Battalion. On return from the Middle East, Hammer commanded the 15th Brigade throughout two years of fighting in New Guinea and Bougainville. After the war, Hammer became Commissioner for Repatriation in Victoria and continued his military career in the Citizens Military Forces, commanding the 2nd Armoured Brigade and later 3rd Division.
